1. Estudio de la microestructura de un cordón de soldadura de un acero P91 mediante microscopía electrónica de transmisión
ABSTRACT In the present work the microstructural characterization of a single-pass weld of 9Cr1MoVNb P91 steel performed by the flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) process in the “as welding” condition has been carried out by means of transmission electron microscopy. P91 steel offers a good weldability, but the mechanical properties of the welded joints are f

2. Electrical, photoelectrical and morphological properties of ZnO nanofiber networks grown on SiO2 and on Si nanowires
ZnO nanofibre networks (NFNs) were grown by vapour transport method on Si-based substrates. One type of substrate was SiO2 thermally grown on Si and another consisted of a Si wafer onto which Si nanowires (NWs) had been grown having Au nanoparticles catalysts. The ZnO-NFN morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy on samples grown at 600 °C and

3. Ressonadores de microdiscos com região ativa nanoestruturada bombeados por injeção eletrônica / Microdisk resonators with nanostructured active region pumped by electronic injection
This doctorate¿s thesis presents the growth of InAs quantum dots directly on high bandgap InGaAsP (?g=1420 nm) barriers to be used as the active region of microdisk resonators with emission in the C-band (1520¿1570 nm). Based on photoluminescence and atomic force microscopy experiments, the occurrence of inter-diffusion on the InAs/InGaAsP interface is cal

4. Microlasers de cavidades estadio aplicados a detecção nanovolumetrica / Stadium cavities microlasers applied to the nanovolumetric detection
This work presents the development of resonant cavities based on chaotic billiard geometries built with semiconductor active optical medium for sensing applications. In spite of the classically chaotic behavior of the stadium, the quantum description of the problem in the semi-classical limit shows unexpected accumulations of the density of probability on cl

5. Micro e nanofabricação (fabricação de contatos eletricos) por feixe de ions focalizados / Micro and nano (manufacture of electrical contacts) with focused ion beam
Nanoscale science and technology is a young and burgeoning field that encompasses nearly every discipline of science and engineering, the rapid growth of the field in the past decades has been enable by the sustained advances in the fabrication and characterization of materials. This work presents the hybrid process for fabrication of micro and nanocontacts,

6. Comparison of base substitutions in response to nitrogen ion implantation and 60Co-gamma ray irradiation in Escherichia coli
To identify the specificity of base substitutions, a novel experimental system was established based on rifampicin-resistant (Rif r) mutant screening and sequencing of the defined region of the rpoB gene in E. coli. We focused on comparing mutational spectra of base substitutions induced by either low energy nitrogen ion beam implantation or 60Co-gamma rays.

7. Fast neutral lithium beam for density and its fluctuation measurements at the boundary regions of ETE tokamak
A Fast Neutral Lithium Beam Probe (FNLBP) is being developed, in order, to perform measurement of the boundary plasma density in discharges of the Spherical Tokamak ETE, recently built at LAP/INPE. This plasma diagnostic method is adequate for use in fusion devices because it does not perturb the plasma and it provides data with high space and time resolutio

8. Electrolytic transport through a synthetic nanometer-diameter pore
We have produced single, synthetic nanometer-diameter pores by using a tightly focused, high-energy electron beam to sputter atoms in 10-nm-thick silicon nitride membranes. Subsequently, we measured the ionic conductance as a function of time, bath concentration, and pore diameter to infer the conductivity and ionic mobility through the pores. The pore condu

9. Deformation twinning in Ni–Mn–Ga micropillars with 10M martensite
The maximum actuation frequency of magnetic shape-memory alloys (MSMAs) significantly increases with decreasing size of the transducer making MSMAs interesting candidates for small scale actuator applications. To study the mechanical properties of Ni–Mn–Ga single crystals on small length scales, two single-domain micropillars with dimensions of 10×15×3

10. Application of flow cytometry to studies of pathogenic free-living amoebae.
Species of small, free-living amoebae of the genera Naegleria and Acanthamoeba can cause fatal amoebic meningoencephalitis. Previous investigations have shown that pathogenic amoebae are associated with thermally altered water. Flow cytometric techniques for identifying species of pathogenic and nonpathogenic amoebae from such water have been developed, usin
