13. The Effect of Gamma-Al2O3 Support on the NO Adsorption on Pd4 Cluster
The effect of γ-Al2O3 support on the NO adsorption on Pd4 clusters was investigated by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Pd4 adsorbed on γ-Al2O3 (represented by a Al14O24H6 cluster) changes its preferential geometry from tetrahedral to a distorted planar structure. The alumina support promotes a higher dispersion in the palladium catal

14. Syntheses and Fundamental Properties of Cr/Mo-Adoped Fe-Rich Alloys With Metastable Phase and Saturation Magnetization Near 1.9 T
The Fe-rich alloys of Fe90-xSi5B5Mx (M= Cr or Mo; x=1, 2) are synthesized in the present study. The as-spun structure mainly consists of bcc phase plus a minor amount of metastable phase (Fe3B and/or Fe23B6). Comparing with the base alloy Fe90Si5B5, the corrosion resistance is improved significantly due to the formation of the passive film. Saturation magnet

15. Spatial and Temporal Variability of Soil CO2 Flux in Sugarcane Green Harvest Systems
ABSTRACT The sugarcane green harvest system, characterized by mechanized harvesting and the absence of crop burning, affects soil quality by increasing crop residue on the soil surface after harvest; thus, it contributes to improving the physical, chemical, and microbiological properties and influences the soil carbon content and CO2 flux (FCO2). This study

16. Burning Rate Measurement of KNSu Propellant Obtained by Mechanical Press
ABSTRACT: The potassium nitrate (KNO3)/sucrose (C12H22O11) propellant, known as KNSu, is traditionally used in rocket studies by amateur groups. Performance tests of KNSu, whose composition is 65 wt% KNO3 and 35 wt% C12H22O11, cold-manufactured by mechanical press, are presented in this paper. The study determines the behaviour of density (ρ) and burning ra

17. An analysis on electric and magnetic behaviour on an induction planar actuator
The induction planar actuator, i.e. IPA, proposed in this study presents an electromagnetic structure formed by a static ferromagnetic core with an aluminium plate that corresponds to the secondary, and a mover, also called primary. The latter comprehends two three-phase windings, mounted in an armature core, which are orthogonal to each other. When they are

18. A Study of Physical and Numerical Effects of Dissipation on Turbulent Flow Simulations
ABSTRACT: The present work is primarily concerned with studying the effects of artificial dissipation and of certain diffusive terms in the turbulence model formulation on the capability of representing turbulent boundary layer flows. The flows of interest in the present case are assumed to be adequately represented by the compressible Reynolds-averaged Navi

19. Germination and sporophytic development of Regnellidium diphyllum Lindm. (Marsileaceae) in the presence of copper
Regnellidium diphyllum Lindm. is a heterosporous fern growing in wetlands and humid soils that are being converted to agricultural activities. Many products that are used in agriculture contain copper, resulting in surface and groundwater contamination. Germination and initial development tests were performed using Meyer's solution containing copper sulphate

20. AnÃlise do Fluxo de Gases na Camada de Cobertura do Aterro SanitÃrio Municipal Oeste de Caucaia (ASMOC) / Analysis of gas Flow in covering layer of Municipal Landfill West of Caucaia (ASMOC)
The growing human consumption entails a greater generation of waste, which, in turn, must be properly treated and disposed. The storage of waste in landfills produces gas, which if not managed properly will affect the quality of life. The uncontrolled emissions of these gases cause multiple economic, social and environmental impacts, as due to air pollution

21. Relationships of photosynthetic photon flux density, air temperature and humidity with tomato leaf diffusive conductance and temperature
The objective was to study the leaf temperature (LT) and leaf diffusive vapor conductance (gs) responses to temperature, humidity and incident flux density of photosynthetically active photons (PPFD) of tomato plants grown without water restriction in a plastic greenhouse in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. The plants were grown in substrate and irrigated daily. The

22. Scaling to generalize a single solution of Richards' equation for soil water redistribution
Using scaling methods, a single solution of Richards' equation (RE) will suffice for numerous specific cases of water flow in unsaturated soils. In this study, a new method is developed to scale RE for the soil water redistribution process. Two similarity conditions are required: similarity in the shape of the soil water content profiles as well as of the wa

23. Nutrient flux associated with the emergence of Quesada gigas Olivier (Hemiptera: Cicadidae) in an urban ecosystem
Large-bodied arthropods, such as cicadas, can be able to reallocate significant amounts of nutrients during adult emergence. Evidence suggests that Quesada gigas Olivier emergence constitutes an important nutrient flux from belowground to aboveground. The purpose of this study was to estimate the amount of nitrogen, proteins, and lipids resulting from the em

24. Analytical method to predict the static performance of a planar actuator
An analytical method for predicting the three-dimensional (3-D) magnetic flux density distribution in the air gap produced by permanent magnets of an electromagnetic planar actuator, was developed. The analytical 3-D model was validated by means of a finite-element model and by measurements. It allowed the understanding of the behavior of the flux density in
