3. Bioactive SiO2-K2O-CaO-P2O5 glass-ceramic scaffold prepared using polyurethane foam template
Abstract A glass-ceramic in the SiO2-K2O-CaO-P2O5 quaternary system was prepared by substituting the Na2O component with K2O to avoid Na2Ca2Si3O9 formation upon thermal treatment since this phase decreases apatite formation kinetics on glass material. To form the glass-ceramic, a modified sol-gel method involving solution precipitation, followed by reagents

4. Association between antibiotic prophylaxis and adverse perinatal outcomes in premature rupture of membranes
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between antibiotic prophylaxis and adverse perinatal outcomes in premature rupture of membranes. METHODS: This retrospective cohort included pregnant women with premature rupture of membranes (between 24 and 33+6 weeks) who used or did not use prophylactic antibiotics. Pearson's chi-s

5. The clinical impact of the systolic volume variation guided intraoperative fluid administration regimen on surgical outcomes after pancreaticoduodenectomy: a retrospective cohort study
Abstract Background Pancreaticoduodenectomy is associated with high morbidity. Many preoperative variables are risk factors for postoperative complications, but they are primarily non-modifiable. It is not clear whether an intraoperative goal-directed fluid regimen might be associated with fewer postoperative surgical complications compared to current conse

6. Fluid administration in cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy: neither too much nor too little
Abstract Introduction Intraoperative fluid therapy in cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy plays an important role in postoperative morbidity. Studies have found an association between overload fluid therapy and increased postoperative complications, advising restrictive intraoperative fluid therapy. Our objective in this stu

7. Fuzzy Modelling to Describe the Pollutant Concentration in Fluids
ABSTRACT The study of the concentration dynamics of a pollutant substance in a fluid is a classic problem of fluid mechanics given by the transport equation u t + cu x = 0, where u = u(x,t) denotes the pollutant concentration along a horizontal pipe of a fixed cross-section in the positive x direction at he time t > 0 and c represents the fluid propagation

8. Impact of colloids or crystalloids in renal function assessed by NGAL and KIM-1 after hysterectomy: randomized controlled trial
Abstract Background Hydroxyethyl starches are colloids used in fluid therapy that may reduce volume infusion compared with crystalloids, but they can affect renal function in critical care patients. This study aims to assess renal effects of starches using renal biomarkers in the perioperative setting. Methods This prospective, controlled, randomized study

9. Intraoperative fluid balance and cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury: a multicenter prospective study
Abstract Background Recent data suggest the regime of fluid therapy intraoperatively in patients undergoing major surgeries may interfere in patient outcomes. The development of postoperative Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) has been associated with both Restrictive Fluid Balance (RFB) and Liberal Fluid Balance (LFB) during non-cardiac surgery. In patients undergo

10. Perioperative goal-directed fluid management using noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring in gynecologic oncology
Abstract Background Intraoperative fluid management is important for the prevention of perioperative morbidity and mortality. Our study aimed to investigate the perioperative feasibility and benefits of Goal-Directed Fluid Management (GDFM) using noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring in gynecologic oncology patients with acute blood loss and severe fluid loss.

11. Pleural tuberculosis: experiences from two centers in Brazil
Abstract Objective: This study aimed to describe the clinical and laboratory findings of patients diagnosed with pleural tuberculosis at two hospitals in southern Brazil. Methods: Patients aged < 18 years were evaluated retrospectively. The patients’ medical and epidemiological history, tuberculin skin test results, radiological and pathological findings

12. Fluid preloading before beach chair positioning for arthroscopic shoulder procedures: a randomized controlled trial
Abstract Background and objectives The Beach Chair Position (BCP) has many advantages such as less neurovascular injury and better intra-articular visualization, but it has also negative consequences, including hemodynamic instability. Although maintaining normal Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) is important, fluid management is also a crucial concept for hemod
