13. Tipping Bucket Prototype for Automatic Quantification of Surface Runoff Rate in Plots
ABSTRACT: Quantification of runoff rate is an onerous task with non-automated devices; it requires a lot of manual labor to perform measurements. In this study, an automatic device to quantify the surface runoff rate from plots with a small area was developed and tested. The prototype was based on the tipping bucket technique and built with reused materials.

14. Flow Analysis: Looking Back and Forward
Flow analysis changed significantly the way of performing chemical analysis by (i) mechanization of analytical procedures in a continuous flowing stream with minimal sample intercontamination; (ii) analytical measurements without attaining chemical equilibria, thus increasing the applicability of kinetic methods and allowing the exploitation of non-quantitat

15. HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY VARIABILITY IN HORIZONTAL SUBSURFACE FLOW CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS
ABSTRACT Many modifications in hydrodynamic conditions occur inside the bed of a horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland (HSSF–CW) in operation. Studies on hydraulic conductivity measurement techniques in HSSF–CW are imperative since the monitoring of flow conditions is essential for understanding and controlling its clogging. This study aimed to

16. Gas permeability of bentonite barriers: development, construction and testing of a measurement system
Abstract This article proposes a testing device to quickly and reliably estimate the gas permeability of bentonite-based clay barriers used in landfill cover systems. The testing methodology is based on a transient gas flow regime that passes through the barrier, therefore not requiring the use of sophisticated equipment that aim to maintain constant differe

17. Enhancing the analytical capacity for biogas development in Brazil: assessment of an original measurement system for low biogas flow rates out of agricultural biomass residues
ABSTRACT This study presents a comparison of two systems for measuring low-flow biogas production rates. Grass silage was used as substrate in the experiment. Measurements were made by using (a) manual readings and (b) an automated system. The automated system proved to be efficient as it allowed readings of the biogas flow rates in real time. Results were s

18. Experimental Investigation on Limit Cycle Wing Rock Effect on Wing Body Configuration Induced by Forebody Vortices
ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to present the aerodynamic and flow characteristics of a slender body with a 30° swept wing configuration undergoing a limit cycle oscillation using a synchronous measurement and control technique of wing rock/particle image velocimetry/dynamic pressure associated with the time history of the wing rock motion. The exper

19. Assessment of endothelial function by flow-mediated dilation in diabetic patients: Effects of physical exercise
Abstract The endothelium is now recognized as an endocrine organ that acts to maintain vascular homeostasis regulating the vascular tone and structure. The endothelial cells synthetize a variety of mediators among them, the main agent is the nitric oxide (NO), a potent vasodilator. NO exerts its protective role preventing leukocyte adhesion and migration, ex

20. Evaluation of biochemical and clinical markers of endothelial dysfunction and their correlation with urinary albumin excretion in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus
ABSTRACT Objective Endothelial dysfunction (ED) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy. The purpose of the study was to determine flow mediated endothelial dependent vasodilatation (FMD) measurements and serum soluble (s) endothelin-1 (ET-1), intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM-1

21. LIQUID FLOW IN IMPELLER SWEPT REGIONS OF BAFFLED AND UNBAFFLED VESSELS WITH A TURBINE-TYPE AGITATOR
Abstract Liquid flow in the impeller swept region of vessels with a turbine-type agitator was examined for the flow path between the neighboring blades of the rotating impeller. Visualization of the flow and its measurement were done using particle tracking velocimetry with a camera rotating along with the impeller. Internal liquid flow of the impeller diffe

22. Maps of deformations in a cantilever beam using particle image velocimetry (PIV) and speckle patterns
PIV (particle image velocimetry) has been spreading in studies that use the movement of particles to monitor the displacement of an object or the flow of a fluid by means of velocity vectors using optical techniques and second order statistics. PIV is also known as laser speckle velocimetry when associated with speckle patterns. This technique has been used

23. Monitoring the effectiveness of root canal procedures on endotoxin levels found in teeth with chronic apical periodontitis
Objective: The aim of this study was to monitor the effectiveness of root canal procedures by using different irrigants and intracanal medication on endotoxin levels found in root canals of teeth with chronic apical periodontitis. Material and Methods: Thirty root canals of teeth with pulpal necrosis associated with periapical lesions were selected and ra

24. Evaluation of flow rate accuracy and pressure measurements of testing rig for neurological valve hydrodynamic tests
INTRODUCTION: Increased production and disorders in the circulation or absorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leads to increased intracranial pressure and causes a condition called hydrocephalus. The most common treatment for this disorder is the implantation of a ventricle-peritoneal shunt, which consists of the insertion of a ventricular catheter in the c
