13. Newly-synthesized chalcones-inhibition of adherence and biofilm formation of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
Biofilm formation and adherence of bacteria to host tissue are one of the most important virulence factors of methicillin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The number of resistant strains is seriously increasing during the past years and bacteria have become resistant, not only to methicillin, but also to other commonly used antistaphylococc

14. Fibronectin modulates thymocyte-thymic epithelial cell interactions following Trypanosoma cruzi infection
Developing thymocytes interact with thymic epithelial cells (TECs) through cell-cell interactions, TEC-derived secretory moieties and extracellular matrix (ECM)-mediated interactions. These physiological interactions are crucial for normal thymocyte differentiation, but can be disrupted in pathological situations. Indeed, there is severe thymic atrophy in an

15. Tenascin and Fibronectin Expression after Pulp Capping with Different Hemostatic Agents: A Preliminary Study
Diferentes ag

16. Gene expression profile analysis of human intervertebral disc degeneration
In this study, we used microarray analysis to investigate the biogenesis and progression of intervertebral disc degeneration. The gene expression profiles of 37 disc tissue samples obtained from patients with herniated discs and degenerative disc disease collected by the National Cancer Institute Cooperative Tissue Network were analyzed. Differentially expre

17. Avaliação do metabolismo de glicosaminoglicanos em pacientes portadores de cistite intersticial / Evaluation of the metabolism of glycosaminoglycans in patients with interstitial cystitis
Introduction: interstitial cystitis is a chronic disease of the lower urinary tract whose symptoms are: increased urinary frequency, nocturia, perineal or pelvic pain that worses with bladder filling and improves with urination. The pathogenesis is not fully known, but there is evidence that proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans lining the bladder urothelium

18. Estudo da ativação eosinofílica e de matriz extracelular de tecido pulmonar periférico em cobaias com inflamação alérgica pulmonar: efeitos do tratamento com dexametasona e antagonista do receptor do cisteinil-leucotrieno D4
Aims: Compare the effects of montelukast or dexamethasone treatments on eosinophilic recruitment, eotaxin, RANTES, fibronectin, IGF-I and NF-B positive cells of distal lung parenchyma and also in airway walls of guinea pigs (GP) with chronic allergic inflammation. Methods: GP were inhaled with ovalbumin (OVA group-2x/week/4weeks). After 4th inhalation, GP we

19. Estudo de proteínas relacionadas ao costâmero em secções longitudinais de músculo sóleo de ratas imobilizadas e reabilitadas pelo alongamento passivo manual intermitente / Study of costameric proteins in soleus muscle longitudinal sections of female rats immobilized and rehabilitated by intermittent passive manual stretching
The interface between sarcolemma and extracellular matrix in skeletal muscle tissue is constituted by specialized proteins that are responsible for the transversal and longitudinal forces transmission to the myofiber. Skeletal muscle adaptations to physiological and pathological forces, such as segmental immobilization and rehabilitation exercises, may contr

20. Efeito do exercício resistido na cartilagem articular de modelo animal de osteoartrite
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a strength exercise protocol on articular cartilage in animal model of osteoarthritis (OA). Thirty-six rats were divided in 6 groups: Control (C, n = 6), Osteoarthritis (OA, n = 6), Sham (S, n = 6), Control with exercise (E n = 6), Osteoarthritis with exercise (OAE, n = 6) and Sham with exercise (SE, n = 6)

21. Produção recombinante e caracterização de uma desintegrina da peçonha de Rhinocerophis alternatus (antiga Bothrops alternatus) com atividade antimetastática visando o desenvolvimento de um novo fármaco
This work presents the study of the effects of an RGD disintegrin from Rhinocerophis alternatus (ancient Bothrops alternatus) in key steps of the metastatic cascade. Disintegrins are cysteine-rich peptides, which have several biological activities related to cell-cell interaction and cell adhesion. The correct pairing of disulfide bonds exposes the adhesive

22. Avaliação funcional dos eosinófilos na anemia falciforme e o efeito do tratamento com hidroxiureia / Altered functional properties of eosinophils in sickle cell anemia and effects of hydroxyurea therapy
Sickle cell anemia is the homozygous state for hemoglobin S. Inflammation plays an important role in the vaso-occlusive process of the disease, where leukocytes, proinflammatory cytokines and adhesion molecules are increased in the peripheral blood of patients with sickle cell anemia. Leukocytosis is associated with morbidity and mortality in these patients.

23. Ação do inibidor de calicreína em linhagens de câncer de próstata / Action of kallikrein inhibitor on prostate cancer cell lines
Prostate cancer is the second more frequent type of cancer. In this work, using DU145 and PC3 prostate cancer cellular lines, we studied the effect of recombinant kallikrein inhibitor modified form (rBbKm), in which the sequence containing the signal motif sequence RGD of the inhibitor BrTI from Bauhnina rufa was inserted. When DU145 and PC3 were incubated w

24. Normal skin and hypertrophic scar fibroblasts differentially regulate collagen and fibronectin expression as well as mitochondrial membrane potential in response to basic fibroblast growth factor
Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) regulates skin wound healing; however, the underlying mechanism remains to be defined. In the present study, we determined the effects of bFGF on the regulation of cell growth as well as collagen and fibronectin expression in fibroblasts from normal human skin and from hypertrophic scars. We then explored the involvement
