1. Influence of Composition on Mechanical Properties of Cassava Starch, Sisal Fiber and Carnauba Wax Biocomposites
Concern for sustainable development has provided significant improvements in the development of biodegradable materials. This work aims to evaluate, through a central composite design (CCD), the mechanical properties of cassava starch-based biocomposites manufactured with different compositions of carnauba wax (CW), sisal fiber (SF) and glycerol (G). The bio

4. Mechanical behavior and water absorption in sisal/glass hybrid composites
ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess the effect of hybridization on thermomechanical properties and water absorption of composite materials, by introducing sisal fiber tissue into the material. To that end, two composite material plates were manufactured, the first with five layers of E-glass reinforcement mat and the second with three layers of E-glass fiber

5. Weibull analysis of tensile tested piassava fibers with different diameters
ABSTRACT Environmental considerations in addition to technical, economical and societal benefits are increasingly promoting the substitution of natural fibers for glass fiber in polymer matrix composites. However, natural fibers are heterogeneous in their dimensions, specially the cross section, which plays an important role in their mechanical strength. It

6. Ballistic Efficiency of Multilayered Armor Systems with Sisal Fiber Polyester Composites
The urban violence and the different types of global armed conflicts demand efficient protective systems against high energy ammunition. Multilayered Armor Systems (MAS) provide efficient protection by making use of lighter and more efficient materials. A typical MAS may be composed of three layers: a front ceramic followed by a composite, backed by a ductil

7. Gamma radiation effect on sisal / polyurethane composites without coupling agents
Abstract Natural fibers and polyurethane based composites may present chemical bonding between the components of the polymer and the lignin of the fiber. The incidence of radiation can cause degradation of the polymeric material and alter its mechanical properties. The objective of this study was to obtain and characterize cold pressed composites from polyur

8. Use of green composites for manufacturing small boats in the Amazon: numerical and experimental evaluations
ABSTRACT The Amazon has a great potential of natural resources. There is a wide diversity of plant specimens and many of them can be extracted and processed such as jute, sisal and mauve fibers. It is known that usualy small communities from Amazon build their boats using a rudimentary and ecologically incorrect method, which comes from brazilian natives. Th

9. Biodegradation in Soil of the PHB/Wood Flour (80/20) and PHB/Sisal Fiber (80/20) Tubes
This paper presents the results of a study that aimed to monitor and evaluate biodegradation in soil, by the mass loss and the mechanical properties of plastic tubes. For this work, there were extruded and injected plastic tubes made of biodegradable polymer poly(hydroxybutyrate) - (PHB) and composite PHB/Wood Flour and PHB/Sisal Fiber, both with 20% fiber.

10. Polyhydroxybutyrate Composites with Random Mats of Sisal and Coconut Fibers
Biodegradable polymeric composites using natural fibers have been investigated aiming to mitigate environmental impacts. In this paper, polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) composites obtained using random mats of sisal and coconut fibers by compression molding in a hydraulic press, and the fiber content varied between 10% and 15% relative to the weight of the polymer.

11. Ballistic Efficiency of an Individual Epoxy Composite Reinforced with Sisal Fibers in Multilayered Armor
Sisal fibers are among the natural lignocellulosic ones with great impact resistance for potential use in polymer composites. This work evaluates the ballistic efficiency of the distinct individual components of a multilayered armor. These include the front ceramic, the back metallic sheet and the intermediate layer as either the conventional aramid fabric o

12. Melt processing of polymer biocomposites
A coupled device extruder and injection moulding were used to prepare biocomposites in order to provide a continuous and large-scale production, and overcome the fiber degradation inside the extruder. Two types of biocomposites were prepared, Sisal/poly(buthylene adipate-co-terephthlate) – PBAT and Juta/poly(lactide acid)/poly(buthylene adipate-co-terephth
