1. Influence of synthetic slag added during the tapping on inclusion features of a vacuum degassed LCAK steel grade
Abstract Synthetic slag has been added during BOF tapping in order to modify the physicochemical properties of resulting slag with the aim of assessing the influence on inclusion density, composition and size distribution. Viscosities and activities of slag oxides were calculated by FactSage 7.2, using the FToxid database and Viscosity module. All heats were

2. Influence of CaO Addition, FeO/SiO2 , and MgO/SiO2 on the Melting Characteristic Temperatures of FeO-SiO2-MgO-CaO System
In order to decrease the oxidation temperature of fayalite in molten nickel slags, the influence of CaO addition, FeO/SiO2, and MgO/SiO2 on melting characteristic temperatures of FeO-SiO2-MgO-CaO system were investigated. The melting characteristic temperatures, including softening temperature (Ts), hemispherical temperature (Th), and flow temperature (Tf),w

3. Analysis of Secondary Refining Slag Parameters with Focus on Inclusion Cleanliness
Secondary refining slag samples with different chemical compositions (45-54 % CaO, 7-13 % Al2O3, 20-29 % SiO2, 9-16 % MgO, 0-5 % CaF2) were investigated to verify the influence of their effective viscosity on inclusion cleanliness of DIN 38MnS6 in a steelmaking plant. The steel samples were collected during the production process for analysis of inclusions.

4. Use of ornamental rock residues for mould flux development
Abstract Ornamental rock production, such as marble and granite plates, have great importance in the southeastern region of Brazil. Its residues are composed of some compounds used in continuous casting as mould fluxes. Therefore, the aim of this article was to study these residues to formulate mould fluxes. First, the raw materials were chemically character

5. Assessment of viscosity calculation for calcium-silicate based slags using computational thermodynamics
Abstract This study focuses on the viscosity calculation of molten slags using computational thermodynamics. Different slag systems and their measured viscosities from different references were used and compared with those obtained through FactSage software. To calculate the viscosity of each slag the Viscosity module available in FactSage 6.4 was used. In o

6. Evaluating the hot metal dephosphorization efficiency of different synthetic slags using phosphorus partition ratio, phosphate capacity and computational thermodynamics
Abstract Phosphate capability (CP) and phosphorus partition ratio (LP) are usually used to evaluate the thermodynamic efficiency of dephosphorization slags with different compositions in hot metal pretreatment. However, these parameters are only useful in equilibrium conditions, and they are not accurate when they are used to evaluate slag efficiency in indu

7. MgO Saturation Analisys of CaO-SiO2-FeO-MgO-Al2O3 Slag System
Electric arc furnace (EAF) slag has a range of functions, including improving energy efficiency through the "slag foaming" phenomenon. As such, the study of slag is important in EAFs. One of the factors that determine foaming quality and efficiency is the presence of solid particles. MgO saturation is highly significant since, in addition to ensuring the pre

8. Influence of Niobium and Molybdenum on Mechanical Strength and Wear Resistance of Microalloyed Steels
The HSLA (High-Strength Low Alloy) steels are used in the production of pipes, flanges and connectors to build ducts for ore, oil and gas transport. The conventional processes are the rolling or forging. In the transport of ore and heavy oil, the abrasive particles impair the surfaces and reduce the pipelines lifetime. Therefore, besides the mechanical prope

9. Phase Diagram Study for the PbO-ZnO-CaO-SiO2-"Fe2O3" System in Air with CaO/SiO2 in 1.1 and PbO/(CaO+SiO2) in 2.4 Weight Ratios
An experimental study on the phase equilibrium and the liquidus isotherms for the PbO-ZnO-CaO-SiO2-"Fe2O3" system with CaO/SiO2 in 1.1 and PbO/(CaO+SiO2) in 2.4 weight ratios, respectively, was carried out in the temperature range 1100-1300ºC (1373-1573 K). High temperature phases were determined by the equilibrium-quenching method. Results are presented in

10. Experimental and computer thermodynamics evaluations of an Al-Si-Coating on a quenchable steel
Abstract High-strength steels are commonly used in the automobile industry in order to reduce the weight of the vehicles. However, a technical difficulty appears due to the need of hot stamping of the components, which leads to oxidation. Therefore, the application of a coating on the substrate to avoid high-temperature oxidation is used. In this work, exper
