13. Chrysosplenetin, in the absence and presence of artemsininin, alters breast cancer resistance protein-mediated transport activity in Caco-2 cell monolayers using aristolochic acid I as a specific probe substrate
ABSTRACT The present study describes the impact of chrysosplenetin, in the absence and presence of artemisinin, on in vitro breast cancer resistance protein-mediated transport activity in Caco-2 cell monolayers using aristolochic acid I as a specific probe substrate. We observed that novobiocin, a known breast cancer resistance protein active inhibitor, incr

14. Multi-Disciplinary System Design Optimization of a Launch Vehicle Upper-Stage
ABSTRACT: The design method presented in this paper is related to the upper-stage system and its instrumentation, expedition and facilitation so as to transfer the satellite from the destination orbit to the target orbit. We used an integrated design method with a structure based on multidisciplinary system design optimization and developed a simple systemat

15. GPo1
alkB gene expression for improvement of the degradation of diesel oil by a bacterial consortiumTo facilitate the biodegradation of diesel oil, an oil biodegradation bacterial consortium was constructed. The alkane hydroxylase (
alkB ) gene ofPseudomonas putida GPo1 was constructed in a pCom8 expression vector, and the pCom8-GPo1alkB plasmid was transformed intoEscherichia coli DH5Braz. J. Microbiol.. Publicado em: 2015-09

16. Association study in Alzheimer’s disease of single nucleotide polymorphisms implicated with coffee consumption
Background There is evidence from animal and in vitro models of the protective effects of caffeine in Alzheimer’s disease. The suggested mechanisms through which caffeine may protect neurons against Alzheimer’s disease pathology include the facilitation of beta-amyloid clearance, upregulation of cholinergic transmission, and increased neuronal plasticit

17. Species-specific associations between overstory and understory tree species in a semideciduous tropical forest
We investigated the occurrence of associations between overstory and understory tree species in a semideciduous tropical forest. We identified and measured all trees of nine canopy species with diameter at breast height ≥4.8 cm in a 10.24 ha plot and recorded all individuals beneath their canopies ("understory individuals") within the same diameter class.

18. Grazing Scar Characteristics Impact Degree of Fungal Facilitation in Spartina alterniflora Leaves in a South American Salt Marsh
Grazing scars of burrowing crabs and Hemiptera insects were simulated on leaves of the salt marsh grass Spartina alterniflora. Simulations of crab feeding generated two-fold higher fungal (ergosterol) content in leaves in comparison to that generated by insect scar simulations (1.26 ±0.55 and 0.57 ±0.25 µg per cm², respectively). This study provided evid

19. Intervenções políticas de primeira ordem: o caso da política chilena de transparência
This study evaluates and interprets the difficulties found in the Chilean policy for transparency in municipalities, using the theory of social systems. This theory argues that, in Latin America's current context, public policies should respond to a society increasingly complex and diversified, with ever greater proximity to persuasion, dialog, and facilitat

20. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in HTLV-I-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis
Introduction: Human T cell lymphotropic virus type I-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) can impact the independence and motricity of patients. The aims of this study were to estimate the effects of physiotherapy on the functionality of patients with HAM/TSP during the stable phase of the disease using proprioceptive neuromuscular f

21. Effect of upper extremity proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation combined with elastic resistance bands on respiratory muscle strength: a randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND: Elastic resistance bands (ERB) combined with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) are often used in resistance muscle training programs, which have potential effects on peripheral muscle strength. However, the effects of the combination of ERB and PNF on respiratory muscle strength warrant further investigation. OBJECTIVES: The a

22. Lesions of the orbitofrontal cortex do not affect the reinforcement omission effect in rats
The reinforcement omission effect (ROE), reflected by response rates that are higher after reinforcement omission than after reinforcement delivery, has been attributed to both motivational and attentional consequences of the surprising reinforcement omission. These processes depend on the operation of separate amygdala areas and their connections with other

In São Paulo State's ) coastal area, Brazil, for several years, a chemical company discharged, without any sort of environmental control, a blend of industrial waste composed of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). Lawsuits forced the company to identify and limit such deposits in order to perform the environmental recovery. A recovery project was develope

24. Phenological synchrony and seasonality of understory Rubiaceae in the Atlantic Forest, Bahia, Brazil
In tropical forests with low seasonality, climatic variables generally exert a weak influence on the phenology of species. The seasonality of phenophases in closely related taxa can be controlled by phylogenetic constraints in such environments. In this study, our aim was to describe the phenology of Rubiaceae in the understory of the Atlantic Forest in the
