1. Radiation Balance and Partitioning of Latent and Sensible Heat Fluxes Over a Lime Orchard in Eastern Amazon
Abstract We investigate the balance of radiation and energy over a lime orchard in Eastern Amazon and how it relates to environmental conditions. We found that lime trees aged between 6 and 7 years old reflect 11.0% to 14.5% of incoming shortwave radiation, and the latent heat flux corresponds to 57.6% and 66.6% of the daily net radiation in the dry season (

2. Drivers of floristic variation in biogeographic transitions: insights from the ecotone between the largest biogeographic domains of South America
ABSTRACT Ecological transitions usually represent vulnerable ecosystems and high biodiversity. Investigating their drivers is important from both biogeographic and conservationist perspectives. One of these transitions is situated between the two largest biogeographic domains of South America - the Amazon and the Cerrado. We evaluated variation in tree flori

3. Dredging impact on trace metal behavior in a polluted estuary: a discussion about sampling design
ABSTRACT Studies involving coastal sediment resuspension have shown that trace metals could be released to the water column due to changes in physical-chemical conditions. Therefore, if environmental agencies adopt screening protocols with insufficient evaluations of contaminant mobilization risks for a given area, the prediction of environmental impacts cau

4. Local environmental controls of Atlantic Forest tree community assembly on a coastal continental island in southeastern Brazil
ABSTRACT Tropical forests with high species diversity are commonly found in rugged montane areas. We investigated causes of local tropical forest tree community assembly on a continental island with heterogeneous terrain. We recorded tree community (absolute species abundance), topography, soil, litter and location in 40 sampling units on two opposite sides

5. Distinct population structure for co-occurring Anopheles goeldii and Anopheles triannulatus in Amazonian Brazil
To evaluate whether environmental heterogeneity contributes to the genetic heterogeneity in Anopheles triannulatus, larval habitat characteristics across the Brazilian states of Roraima and Pará and genetic sequences were examined. A comparison with Anopheles goeldii was utilised to determine whether high genetic diversity was unique to An. triannulatus. St

6. Soil profile, relief features and their relation to structure and distribution of Brazilian Atlantic rain forest trees
In tropical forests, the environmental heterogeneity can provide niche partitioning at local scales and determine the diversity and plant species distribution. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the variations of tree species structure and distribution in response to relief and soil profile features in a portion of the largest remnant of Brazilian Atlanti

7. Despacho online para o problema dinâmico de roteamento de veículos
The allocation of vehicles for a specific customers demand is subject to a combinatorial explosion of possibilities by the exponential increase of alternatives according to growth of the problem size. When environmental changes are considered, such as the advent of new customers, the Vehicle Routing Problem becomes dynamic and even more complex and unpredict

8. Composição e partição de nicho em gradientes de solo e luz no Cerrado / Composition and niche partitioning in relation to soil and light gradients in Cerrado

9. Spatial diversity patterns of birds in a vegetation mosaic of the Pantanal, Mato Grosso, Brazil
In this contribution we characterize the spatial diversity of bird populations in a heterogeneous landscape with respect to vegetation in the northern Pantanal region of Brazil. The method of additive partitioning of species diversity (γ = α + β) was used. Samples were collected in a grid with 30 sampling plots within a 25 km² area (5 x 5 km). A total of

Forest fragmentation events have been characterized as one of the main threats to biodiversity in modern times, and are the primary cause of species loss in tropical forests. Ants are organisms that present many suitable traits to be used in ecological studies, therefore they are frequently used in fragmentation surveys. However only epigaeic microhabitat ha

12. Variación florística de especies arbóreas a escala local en un bosque de tierra firme en la Amazonia colombiana
This study was carried out in a 5-ha permanent plot established in the Amacayacu National Park, Colombian Amazonia. We assessed the extent at which floristic patterns of tree species were determined by either the environmental variation or the spatial configuration in tierra firme forests. Floristic and environmental variation was assessed on quadrants of 20
