1. 3D numerical investigation of mixture formation and combustion in a DISI engine at part-load under stratified operation
This work investigates through numerical simulation, the operation of a big bore direct fuel injection spark ignition engine, at part load under stratified operation. It evaluates fuel-air mixture preparation and combustion process with the adoption of detailed chemical kinetics mechanisms for both Isooctane and Ethanol, and applying adaptive mesh refinement

2. Theoretical and Experimental Heat Transfer in Solid Propellant Rocket Engine
ABSTRACT: Accurate determination of heat flux is an important task not only in the designing aspect, but also in the performance analysis of rocket engines. In this purpose, this work deals with the heat flux determination in a combustion chamber through the inverse method. In this approach, the transient heat flux is determined from the experimental tempera

3. Multi-criteria Selection of Distributed Mini Generation Systems Using Rice Husk
ABSTRACT This paper presents a multi-criteria methodology to support decision making for management and selection of distributed mini generation sources (GD) using rice husk. Considering the potential of residual biomass, the developed model is based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to evaluate the main technological arrangements of generation

4. Trajectory Optimization of Launch Vehicles Using Object-oriented Programming
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to model launch vehicles with focus on 3-DOF trajectory optimization using a modular approach. Despite the large number of operational launch vehicles, they usually consist of basic components and subsystems. In other words, a launch vehicle is an assembly of stages, which in turn is divided into propellant system and engin

5. A Reliable Method for Predicting the Specific Impulse of Chemical Propellants
ABSTRACT The specific impulse (Isp) is an important performance parameter that describes energy efficiency of propellant combustion and is intimately related to the rocket engine thrust. In this study, it was possible by using only two variables, i.e., the heat of reaction (Q) and the number of moles of gaseous reaction products per gram of propellant (Ng) c

6. Modeling and Analysis of a LOX/Ethanol Liquid Rocket Engine
ABSTRACT This work studies the performance and dry mass of the under development LOX/Ethanol L75 liquid rocket engine. To this end, an object-oriented program written in C++ was developed. The program is intended to be versatile and easily extensible in order to analyze different configurations of liquid rocket engines. The UML (Unified Modeling Language) to

7. Biodiesel Glycerides from the Soybean Ethylic Route Incomplete Conversion on the Diesel Engines Combustion Process
An evaluation was made to determine the effect of the glycerides presence resulting from the incomplete conversion of soybean biodiesel produced via alkaline catalysis and ethylic route on engine performance, and emissions in formulations containing 10 and 20% (m/m) of biodiesel used as additives in base diesel with low sulfur content and cetane ratings of 4

8. An Investigation on Morphology and Fractal Dimension of Diesel and Diesel-Biodiesel Soot Agglomerates
In this study, it is reported the fractal dimension and morphology of ultrafine particles emitted by a diesel engine run with B4, B50, and B100. Transmission electron micrographs evidenced two main groups of particles with characteristic and distinct morphological behaviors: (i) particle agglomerate structures self-organized within a fractal-like geometry, a

9. Concentration Profiles of Regulated and Unregulated Pollutants Emitted from the Combustion of Soybean Biodiesel and Diesel/Biodiesel Blend Originating of a Diesel Cycle Engine
This study evaluated the concentration profiles of regulated and unregulated pollutants emitted from a stationary diesel engine cycle, operating at the speed of 1800 rpm and 0% load, using biofuels and binary blends. The experimental test considered fuel burning time on three different periods and storage times. The operation of the engine when it is still c

10. Thick CrN/NbN Multilayer Coating Deposited by Cathodic Arc Technique
The production of tribological nanoscale multilayer CrN/NbN coatings up to 6 µm thick by Sputtering/HIPIMS has been reported in literature. However, high demanding applications, such as internal combustion engine parts, need thicker coatings (>30 µm). The production of such parts by sputtering would be economically restrictive due to low deposition rates.

11. Experimentally Validated Combustion and Piston Fatigue Life Evaluation Procedures for the Bi-Fuel Engines, Using an Integral-Type Fatigue Criterion
Abstract A relatively complete procedure for high cycle fatigue life assessment of the engine components is outlined in the present paper. The piston is examined as a typical component of the engine. In this regard, combustion process and transient heat transfer simulations, determination of the instantaneous variations of the pressure and temperature in the

12. One-Stage Power Turbine Preliminary Design and Analysis
ABSTRACT: Design and development of gas turbine components are a complex multidisciplinary process. At the beginning of the power class definition and engine configuration it is necessary to conduct a market study. The results obtained are used in gas turbine thermodynamic cycle calculations and analysis in order to define the gas turbine design point. Sever
