1. Combination of Multi-Energy Calibration (MEC) and Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for Dietary Supplements Analysis and Determination of Ca, Mg and K
This study describes the application of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for the direct determination of Ca, K and Mg in powdered dietary supplements. Multi-energy calibration (MEC) method was applied to obtain a calibration curve. With MEC, it was possible to observe spectral interferences and select adequate emission lines from LIBS. For Ca and

2. In situ Determination of K, Ca, S and Si in Fresh Sugar Cane Leaves by Handheld Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry
A portable energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer was evaluated in the in situ analysis of fresh sugar cane leaves for real time plant nutrition diagnosis. Fresh leaf fragments (n = 10 sugar cane varieties; 20 fragments per leaf; 2 measurement sites per fragment) were irradiated and the averaged data from X-ray characteristic emission lines intens

3. Physiochemical and Optical Properties of GdF3:Pr@LaF3@SiO2 Microspheres
The polyol-based co-precipitation process was employed for synthesis of GdF3:Pr (core) and GdF3:Pr@LaF3 (core-shell) microspheres (MSs). Subsequently, an amorphous silica layer was deposited surrounding the core-shell MSs, which was verified from high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and FTIR results.

4. Qualitative and Quantitative Chemical Investigation of Orthopedic Alloys by Combining Wet Digestion, Spectroanalytical Methods and Direct Solid Analysis
In this study, two laser-based techniques, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) were used for analytical signal evaluation of Ti, Al, and V and investigation of possible harmful elements eventually present as minor elements in Ti alloys. Due to the lack of certified reference

5. Exploring the Versatility of an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer: Application to Direct Molecular Determination of Caffeine and Propranolol
A simple strategy using an atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS) for the direct determination of molecular compounds is proposed. The determination of caffeine and propranolol employing atomic absorption instrumentation was conducted, monitoring the emission lines of Fe (271.9 nm) and Mg (285.2 nm), respectively, using a quartz cuvette (1.0 cm) positioned in

6. Simulação da dinâmica do estado excitado em semicondutores orgânicos / Simulation of the excited state dynamics in organic semiconductors
In the present work, the Monte Carlo method and the direct numerical integration of the Master Equation were employed to simulate the excitation spectral diffusion process in light emitting polymeric systems. The methodology employed a competition among the internal intra-molecular relaxation, the inter-molecular incoherent energy transfer via Förster mecha

7. MONITORING FLEXIBLE RISERS WITH OPTICAL FIBER SENSORS / MONITORAMENTO DE RISERS FLEXÍVEIS COM SENSORES A FIBRA ÓPTICA
The interest in structural health monitoring of flexible risers has grown significantly in recent years. For ducts that are already reaching their design life, monitoring systems can provide early warnings of potential failures and also assist the operator in scheduling downtime. Different techniques are being tested by operators of flexible pipes such as au

8. Evaluation of the initial development of conilon coffee clones (Coffea canephora).
The Vitória Incaper 8142? variety of conilon coffee (Coffea canephora), presents superior productivity in relation to the others released so far. It consists of thirteen elite clones, whose cultivation is performed in lines. This work aimed to quantify the initial development of the clones which compose ?Vitória Incaper 8142? variety. 10. Optical and electrical diagnostics of microdischarges at moderate to high pressure in argon
Microdischarges at moderate to high pressure in argon were investigated. A hole opening diameter of 500 µm direct current (dc) microhollow cathode discharges (MHCD) were characterized by electrical measurements and optical emission spectroscopy (OES) for pressures ranging between 90 and 800 Torr and current from 5 to 20 mA. Current-voltage characteristic cu

11. Estudo da dinâmica de acréscimo e perda de massa na estrela T Tauri clássica V354 Mon.
The main goal of this work is to characterize the mass accretion and ejection processes of the classical T Tauri star V354 Mon, a member of the young stellar cluster NGC 2264. In March 2008, photometric and spectroscopic observations of this object were obtained simultaneously with the CoRoT satellite, the SOPHIE échelle spectrograph at the Observatoire de

12. Estudo das propriedades opto-eletrônicas de micro-cristais de rubi / Study of opto-electronics properties of ruby micro-crystals
Films of amorphous aluminum-nitride (AlN) were prepared by conventional radio frequency sputtering of an Al+Cr target in a plasma of pure nitrogen. The Cr-to-Al relative area determines the chromium content, which stayed in the ~ 0 3.33 at.% concentration range in the present study. Film deposition was followed by thermal annealing the samples up to 1050 ºC
