1. Base-temperature, plastochron and chia (Salvia hispanica L. - Lamiaceae) yield for different sowing times
ABSTRACT Chia is a plant whose seeds are used in cooking and is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and protein, as well as other important nutritional components such as antioxidants. The objective of this work was to estimate the base temperature, plastochron and chia seed yield for different sowing times in Cruz Alta, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

2. Comparison of different quantification methods for 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography studies in rat brains
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate several methods to estimate glucose consumption in the male Wister rat brain as measured by PET. METHODS: Fourteen male Wistar normoglycemic rats were studied. The input function consisted of seventeen blood samples drawn manually from the femoral artery. Glucose uptake values were calculated using the input functio

3. CH4 and CO2 monitoring in the air of underground coal mines in southern Brazil and GHG emission estimation
Abstract This study aims to assess methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations in the ventilation systems of two coal mines (A and B) in the Santa Catarina coal deposit in southern Brazil (Paraná Basin, Bonito Formation), and estimate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The highest CH4 levels (1.8%) were recorded in strong methane emanation area

4. PHENOLOGY OF Calotropis procera (Ait.) W.T. Aiton ACCESSIONS BASED ON MORPHOPHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

5. Failure behavior monitoring and evaluation of steel-confined reinforced concrete columns by acoustic emission under quasi-static loading
Abstract The mechanical behavior and failure evolution of steel-confined and unconfined reinforced concrete (RC) columns are investigated under quasi-static loading through acoustic emission (AE) signal. The excellent hysteresis response, lighter damage characteristics and delayed catastrophe of steel-confined RC columns are verified. Characteristic AE param

6. Soil CO2 Efflux Measurements by Alkali Absorption and Infrared Gas Analyzer in the Brazilian Semiarid Region
ABSTRACT The CO2 emission from the soil surface, commonly referred to as soil CO2 efflux (ECO2) or soil respiration, is the sum of processes that include root respiration and microbial activity. Measuring this evolution is important to establish sustainable land use models and to estimate global fluxes of carbon, which affect climate change. Despite its impo

7. POTENTIAL OF REDUCTION IN THE EMISSION OF METHANE AND NITROUS OXIDE FROM SWINE WASTEWATER AFTER TREATED BY TWO DIFFERENT SYSTEMS
ABSTRACT Swine wastewater have high pollution load, requiring treatment before its disposal into the environment. Methane (CH4) potentially emitted for such waste is considered 21 times more polluting than Carbon dioxide (CO2), and the nitrous oxide (N2O) is considered 310 times. In this way, projects of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and energy use r

8. Effects of feed restriction and forage:concentrate ratio on digestibility, methane emission, and energy utilization by goats
ABSTRACT This study was carried out to to evaluate how feed restriction and different forage:concentrate ratios affect digestibility, methane emission (using the SF6 technique), and energy utilization of Anglo-Nubian goats. Fifteen (15) dry and non-pregnant Anglo Nubian goats, averaging 30±2.9 kg body weight, were used. The experiment was divided into two t

9. Optical Band Gap Estimation of ZnO Nanorods
Abstract The optical band gap energy of ZnO nanorods was estimated by different methods found in literature. These nanorods were deposited onto TiO2 covered borosilicate glass substrates by aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition. Characterization techniques were employed to reveal the crystalline structure, surface morphology and optical properties of th

10. Model-predicted ammonia emission from two broiler houses with different rearing systems
Ammonia (NH3) emissions from broiler production can affect human and animal health and may cause acidification and eutrophication of the surrounding environment. This study aimed to estimate ammonia emissions from broiler litter in two systems of forced ventilation, the tunnel ventilation (TV) and the dark house (DH). The experiment was carried out on eight

11. Soil and crop residue CO2-C emission under tillage systems in sugarcane-producing areas of southern Brazil
Appropriate management of agricultural crop residues could result in increases on soil organic carbon (SOC) and help to mitigate gas effect. To distinguish the contributions of SOC and sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) residues to the short-term CO2-C loss, we studied the influence of several tillage systems: heavy offset disk harrow (HO), chisel plow (CP), rotary

12. Simple procedure for nutrient analysis of coffee plant with energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF)
Nutrient analysis is used to estimate nutrient content of crop plants to manage fertilizer application for sustained crop production. Direct solid analysis of agricultural and environmental samples by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) was chosen as alternative technique to evaluate the simultaneous multielemental quantification of the
