1. USE OF INOCULUM IN BIODIGESTERS WITH CATTLE MANURE UNDER CONVENTIONAL AND ORGANIC PRODUCTION SYSTEMS
ABSTRACT One way of making livestock farming a more sustainable practice is to raise cattle organically. However, regardless of the production system, there is a generation of residues that can be converted into energy resources using biodigesters. This study aimed to evaluate the addition of inoculum in the anaerobic biodigestion of cattle manure under orga

5. CHARACTERIZATION-PERFORMANCE OF ZnO AND ZnO/ZnFe2O4 CATALYST USING ARTIFICIAL AND SOLAR LIGHT FOR MERCURY (II) REDUCTION
Abstract This study describes the application of ZnO commercial oxide and ZnO/ZnFe2O4 mixed oxides to reduce the mercury ion (Hg2+) in the aqueous phase. The catalysts synthesized were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, adsorption and desorption of N2, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, photoac

6. Wastewater infrastructure and the ecology and management of freshwater systems

7. Identification of microalgae from waste stabilization ponds and evaluation of electroflotation by alternate current for simultaneous biomass separation and cell disruption

8. Dairy manure wastewater in serial UASB reactors for energy recovery and potential effluent reuse
Abstract This manuscript addresses the use of dairy manure wastewater (DMW) as a substrate for methane production in a high rate system - two serial UASB reactors - and the characterization of the effluent in the different phases of the treatment. Two experimental conditions were applied. In the first, the organic load rate (OLR) was 6.2 gCODtotal L-1 d-1 an

9. Degradation of textile dyes by cyanobacteria
Abstract Dyes are recalcitrant compounds that resist conventional biological treatments. The degradation of three textile dyes (Indigo, RBBR and Sulphur Black), and the dye-containing liquid effluent and solid waste from the Municipal Treatment Station, Americana, São Paulo, Brazil, by the cyanobacteria Anabaena flos-aquae UTCC64, Phormidium autumnale UTEX1

10. POTENTIAL OF REDUCTION IN THE EMISSION OF METHANE AND NITROUS OXIDE FROM SWINE WASTEWATER AFTER TREATED BY TWO DIFFERENT SYSTEMS
ABSTRACT Swine wastewater have high pollution load, requiring treatment before its disposal into the environment. Methane (CH4) potentially emitted for such waste is considered 21 times more polluting than Carbon dioxide (CO2), and the nitrous oxide (N2O) is considered 310 times. In this way, projects of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and energy use r

11. REDUCTION OF EXCESS SLUDGE PRODUCTION IN AN ACTIVATED SLUDGE SYSTEM BASED ON LYSIS-CRYPTIC GROWTH, UNCOUPLING METABOLISM AND FOLIC ACID ADDITION
Abstract The following sludge reduction alternatives were tested in wastewater biological reactors: oxic-settling-anaerobic (OSA-process); ultrasonic disintegration (UD); chlorination (CH); 3,3',4',5-tetrachlorosalicylanilide (TCS); and folic acid (FA). Compared to the control system, UD reduced 55% of the sludge production, and greater substrate and nutrien

12. Evaluation of the erosion susceptibility and proposal of a strategic zoning plan for the sustainable management of the Piranga River Watershed, MG / Avaliação da suscetibilidade à erosão e proposição de zoneamento estratégico com vistas à sustentabilidade da bacia hidrográfica do rio Piranga, MG
The Piranga River watershed lies within a region in Brazil which requires special attention because of negative environmental impacts from uncontrolled deforestation during the expansion of the agricultural activity, inadequate soil management and untreated effluent discharge, and also because of its low level of socioeconomic development. In addition, the P
