14. SÍNTESE E CARACTERIZAÇÃO DE PONTOS QUÂNTICOS AMBIENTALMENTE AMIGÁVEIS, UM MEIO SIMPLES DE EXEMPLIFICAR E EXPLORAR ASPECTOS DA NANOCIÊNCIA E NANOTECNOLOGIA EM CURSOS DE GRADUAÇÃO
Nanotechnologies and nanomaterials are very current and interesting topics and can be used as interdisciplinary tools in education. They can be used to work in a practical and interesting way with lots of subjects. In chemistry teaching it can be particularly important to consolidate the nanomaterials, nanotechnology and characterization teaching. Among the

15. An Overview of the Photocatalytic H2 Evolution by Semiconductor-Based Materials for Nonspecialists
The solar-to-chemical energy conversion is promising to tackle sustainability challenges toward a global future. The production of H2 from sunlight represents an attractive alternative to the use of carboniferous fossil fuels to meet our energy demands. In this context, the water splitting reaction photocatalyzed by semiconductors that can be excited under v

16. (Bio)conjugation Strategies Applied to Fluorescent Semiconductor Quantum Dots
Quantum dots (QDs) are semiconductor nanocrystals, which present unique photophysical properties, enabling their application as new fluorescent platforms for biomedical sciences. Colloidal QDs are end-capped with organic or inorganic compounds, not only to prevent their agglomeration but also to provide reaction sites for the attachment of targeting (bio)mol

17. Use of Carbon Dots Synthesized from Citrate as a Fluorescent Probe for Quercetin Determination in Tea and Beer Samples
In this work, carbon dots (CDs) prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method were employed for the determination of quercetin in teas and beers. The fluorescence quenching of CDs was proportional to the concentration of quercetin. Under optimum experimental conditions, linear quenching was observed for quercetin in the range of 1.0 to 10 mg L-1 (F/F0 = (0.1511

18. The Ability of Biodentine™ of Guided Tissue Remineralization (GTR): Analysis Using SEM, EDX and TEM
Abstract Objective: To analyze the Biodentine™ capability in guided tissue remineralization. Material and Methods: Four premolar with two cavities per tooth of 3 mm depth were demineralized with EDTA 17% in shaking incubator at 37ºC temperature. After 7 days, the sample were washed with aquabidest then were soaked in 20 ml NaCl 1 M (pH 7.0) at 25ºC tem

19. Hydrothermal Synthesis to Water-stable Luminescent Carbon Dots from Acerola Fruit for Photoluminescent Composites Preparation and its Application as Sensors
Carbon dots (C-dots) possess the attractive properties of high stability, low toxicity, good water solubility, simple synthetic routes as well as size and excitation-dependent photoluminescence (PL).The aim of this work was to synthesize photoluminescent C-dots by hydrothermal method using acerola fruit (Malpighiaemarginata) as a row material, since this fru

20. Pseudopotential Study of CdTe Quantum Dots: Electronic and Optical Properties
The present contribution reports on the electronic and optical properties of zinc-blende CdTe quantum dots using a pseudopotential approach. Our findings showed that the predicted nano-structured direct band gap is significantly increased relative to the bulk one. For a nanocrystal diameter in the range 1.2-5 nm, the refractive index and dielectric constant

21. Synthesis of Hydrotalcite-Supported CdTe Semiconductor Nanocrystals for Electrochemical Detection of Ciprofloxacin
In this work, CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were controllably grown onto the surface of layered double hydroxide (LDH) aiming to develop a sensitive and selective method for the electrochemical detection of ciprofloxacin (CPX). Emission and absorption spectroscopy results as well as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images evidenced the form

22. Fluorescent Sensors Based on Cu-Doped Carbon Quantum Dots for the Detection of Rutin
In this paper, Cu-doped carbon quantum dots (Cu-CQDs) were prepared by carrying out thermolysis of Na2[Cu(EDTA)] and hydroxylamine hydrochloride at 300 ºC for 2 h. The as-prepared Cu-CQDs were characterized by UV-Vis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diff

23. Functionalization of P3HT with Various Mono- and Multidentate Anchor Groups
Due to its favorable optoelectronic properties and the accessibility via Grignard metathesis (GRIM) polymerization, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) is one of the most applied conjugated polymers. The ‘living' nature of GRIM polymerization enables the modification of the polymer and the installation of desired properties. In the present study, two versatile a

24. A new technique, combined plication-incision (CPI), for correction of penile curvature
ABSTRACT Introduction Penile curvature (PC) can be surgically corrected by either corporoplasty or plication techniques. These techniques can be complicated by post-operative: penile shortening, recurrent PC, painful/palpable suture knots and erectile dysfunction. Objective To avoid the complications of corporoplasty and plication techniques using a new te
