1. Plasticity in the timing of activity in the Red-rumped Agouti, Dasyprocta leporina (Mammalia: Rodentia), in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil

2. Spider assemblage (Arachnida: Araneae) associated with canopies of Vochysia divergens (Vochysiaceae) in the northern region of the Brazilian Pantanal
ABSTRACT This study describes the composition and temporal variation of the spider assemblage (Arachnida: Araneae) associated with canopies of Vochysia divergens Pohl. (Vochysiaceae) in the northern region of the Brazilian Pantanal. Three V. divergens plants were sampled in 2004, at each seasonal period of the northern Pantanal (high water, receding water, d

3. Fatty acid profile of meat, diurnal changes in volatile fatty acids, rumen fluid parameters, and growth performance in Korean native (Hanwoo) steers fed high- and low-forage diets supplemented with chromium-methionine
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the effects of forage level in diets supplemented with chromium-methionine (Cr-Met) on rumen fluid parameters, meat fatty acid composition, and performance of Korean beef (Hanwoo) steers. Twenty-three Hanwoo steers were used in this experiment. A completely randomized design and repeated measurements were

4. ANÁLISIS DE LA MAREA TERRESTRE GRAVIMÉTRICA EN LA ESTACIÓN SAN JUAN (ARGENTINA)
Gravity measurements at the San Juan station with a Scintrex Automated CG-5 gravity meter were analyzed in order to obtain the Earth tidal parameters of amplitude and phase-difference. The observations cover a total number of 35 days. This is the first tidal analysis based on gravity measurements for this location. The Tamura tidal development was used as no

5. Abundance changes and activity flexibility of the oncilla, Leopardus tigrinus (Carnivora: Felidae), appear to reflect avoidance of conflict
We investigated the density and activity of the oncilla, Leopardus tigrinus (Schreber, 1775), a threatened small cat, in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, using camera-trap data. We described differences in the activity of individuals occurring alone or in sympatry with larger cats. Oncilla presented low densities (7-13 ind./100 km²) and high flexibility in it

6. Effects of xylem water transport on CO2 efflux of woody tissue in a tropical tree, Amazonas State, Brazil
We assessed the effect of xylem sap flux on radial CO2 efflux of woody tissue of a tropical trees species growing in the Center of Manaus (Amazonas State, Brazil). An open chamber system was used to constantly measure diurnal changes in CO2 efflux over several days. Xylem sap flux was monitored additionally. We found a strong relationship between temperature

7. Diurnal changes in storage carbohydrate metabolism in cotyledons of the tropical tree Hymenaea courbaril L. (Leguminosae)
The cotyledons of Hymenaea courbaril store large amounts of xyloglucan, a cell wall polysaccharide that is believed to serve as storage for the period of seedling establishment. During storage mobilisation, xyloglucan seems to be degraded by a continuous process that starts right after radicle protrusion and follows up to the establishment of photosynthesis.

8. Moderate warm temperature improves shoot growth, affects carbohydrate status and stimulates photosynthesis of sweet orange plants
Citrus plants were grown under two thermal conditions for evaluating carbon metabolism acclimation to moderate warm temperature (30/20ºC, day/night), and its likely impact on plant growth. As reference, plants were grown at 25/20ºC, in which they were subjected to optimum temperature for photosynthesis during the diurnal period (25ºC). Higher photosynthet

9. Distribuição, nicho potencial e ecologia morfológica do gênero enyalius (squamata, leiosauridae) : testes de hipotéses para lagartos de florestas continentais brasileiras
In the first chapter, we saw that the main factors affecting the Enyalius¿ geographical distribution were the annual mean temperature, latitude, and the mean diurnal temperature, which indicates a possible thermal adaptation as a base to explain the group distribution. Enyalius distribution was reflected in the morphological geographical variation, as demon

10. HistÃria natural das serpentes Oxibelis aeneus (Wagler, 1824) (Squamata, Colubridae) e Philodryas nattereri Steindachner, 1870 (Squamata, Dipsadidae) em domÃnio de caatinga no estado do Cearà / Natural history of snakes Oxibelis aeneus (Wagler, 1824) (Squamata, Colubridae) and Philodryas nattereri Steindachner, 1870 (Squamata, Dipsadidae) in the area of caatinga in the state of CearÃ
It is presented a detailed study on the ecology of two species of snakes that occur on the state of CearÃ, Oxybelis aeneus (Wagler, 1824) and Philodryas nattereri Steindachner, 1870. Both species could be found in the field during all months of the year, O. aeneus presented a peak during the dry season while P. nattereri were more easily found during the ra

11. Efeito da sazonalidade da precipitação no crescimento e trocas gasosas em espécies arbóreas numa floresta de terra-firme da Amazônia Central
The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of the rainfall pattern on growth and leaf gas exchange in saplings of ten tree species in a terra-firma rainforest of Central Amazonia. I also studied the effect of diurnal variation on photosynthetic rates (A), and the relationship between A and growth rates of saplings. The study was conducted at t

12. Levantamento, área de vida, uso e seleção de hábitat de Falconiformes na região central do estado de São Paulo / Survey, home range, habitat use and selection of the Falconiformes in the central region of the state of São Paulo
Raptors, similarly to other animal groups, are not randomly distributed in the different habitats in the terrestrial landscape. Knowing and understanding the factors (and implications) influencing these species to chose a certain habitat are essential in ecological studies. This subject has become even more important not only because of the lack of informati
