1. A DISCRETE STOCHASTIC MODEL TO DETERMINE FOOD QUALITY BY USING SIMULATION: A STRAWBERRY CASE STUDY
ABSTRACT The agri-food supply chain (AFSC) sets a series of challenges in the production, storage, distribution, and transportation processes, as the market's requirements for fresh food combine food quality and safety attributes. This research suggests a discrete event modeling to study the behavior of food quality in all supply chains (SCs) in terms of tem

2. A COMBINATION OF DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATION AND MULTI-CRITERIA ANALYSIS TO CONFIGURE SUGARCANE DROP AND HOOK DELIVERY SYSTEMS
ABSTRACT This article explores decision analysis regarding Drop and Hook (D&H) transportation operations at sugarcane mills. By means of a case study, a combination of a discrete event simulation model and multi-attribute utility theory was used to evaluate different configurations for sugarcane delivery systems using internal, external, or no D&H systems. A

3. DETERMINING PRODUCTION AND INVENTORY PARAMETERS: AN INTEGRATED SIMULATION AND MAVT APPROACH WITH TRADEOFF ELICITATION
ABSTRACT This study puts forward a multi-attribute decision model that determines good production and inventory parameter settings in make-to-stock (MTS) environments controlled by the Conwip (constant work-in-process) method. This model uses a discrete event simulation to evaluate the performance of a system in relation to work-in-process and a finished goo

4. The Skateboard Factory: a teaching case on discrete-event simulation
Abstract Real-life applications during the teaching process are a desirable practice in simulation education. However, access to real cases imposes some difficulty in implement such practice, especially when the classes are large. This paper presents a teaching case for a computer simulation course in a production engineering undergraduate program. The motiv

5. SIMULATION OPTIMIZATION FOR ANALYSIS OF SUSTAINABLE LOGISTICS SYSTEMS
ABSTRACT This work analyzed different logistics structures under a sustainable perspective. It wasdeveloped a discrete event simulation model associated with optimization algorithm to evaluate the best combinations of the model. Besides, the comparison between the simulation optimization and a multicriteria method was performed. The simulation software Urura

6. ANALYSIS OF SHIP ARRIVAL FUNCTIONS IN DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATION MODELS OF AN IRON ORE EXPORT TERMINAL
ABSTRACT This work evaluates the results of different distribution functions of ships arrivals in the simulation of an iron ore export terminal under implementation. The system adopted for the analysis applied a real case designed for installation of a Brazilian company terminal. The analysis was carried out by a discrete event simulation model. Variations o

7. DECISION WITH ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS IN DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATION MODELS ON A TRAFFIC SYSTEM
ABSTRACT This work aims to demonstrate the use of a mechanism to be applied in the development of the discrete-event simulation models that perform decision operations through the implementation of an artificial neural network. Actions that involve complex operations performed by a human agent in a process, for example, are often modeled in simplified form w

8. URBAN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT BY PROCESS MAPPING AND SIMULATION
Adequate management of urban solid waste (USW) is beneficial to the environment, cities and people who depend on the income generated from collecting this waste material to survive. Due to the level of complexity of these processes involved in recyclable USW sorting, management tools which enable systemic studies become valuable assets by evaluating the effe

9. Daily counting of manufactured units sent for quality control: a bayesian approach
This paper presents the statistical modeling for daily counting statistics of units that arrive for quality inspection at a food company. Different Poisson regression models were considered in order to analyze the data collected, with a Bayesian focus. The main objective was to forecast the daily average count based on co-variables such as days of the week.

10. Alternativas de tratamento da água de lastro em portos exportadores de minério de ferro. / Ballast water treatment alternatives in the iron ore ports exporting.
This thesis aims at making a technical and economic analysis of the ballast water treatment in Brazilian iron ore ports. Three distinct treatment alternatives were studied: (1) onshore ballast water treatment; (2) water desalination plant to ballast water treatment; (3) onboard ballast water treatment in shuttle tanker vessels operating in the mooring, where

11. Evaluation of a proposed optimization method for discrete-event simulation models
Optimization methods combined with computer-based simulation have been utilized in a wide range of manufacturing applications. However, in terms of current technology, these methods exhibit low performance levels which are only able to manipulate a single decision variable at a time. Thus, the objective of this article is to evaluate a proposed optimization
