1. An autochthonous case of paracoccidioidomycosis in a new area of Ceara State, Northeastern Brazil
ABSTRACT The largest endemic areas of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) in Brazil comprise the humid agricultural regions of the Southeast, South, and, recently, the Midwest and North regions. The Ceara State, located in the Brazilian Northeast region, presents semi-arid climate in most of its territory, characterized by high temperatures, scarce vegetation and l

4. On asymptotic analysis of spectral problems in elasticity
The three-dimensional spectral elasticity problem is studied in an anisotropic and inhomogeneous solid with small defects, i.e., inclusions, voids, and microcracks. Asymptotics of eigenfrequencies and the corresponding elastic eigenmodes are constructed and justified. New technicalities of the asymptotic analysis are related to variable coefficients of diffe

5. A numerical study about the determination of parameters in an incompressible and linearly elastic solid / Estudo numérico sobre a determinação de parâmetros em um sólido elástico-linear e incompressível
The theory of classical linear elasticity is used to model of problems in medical physics that are related to the determination of elastic parameters of biological tissues from the measurement in vivo, or, in vitro of either displacements or strains. Based on experimental observations, which indicate that the abnormal biological tissues have different mechan

6. Semicontinuidade superior de atratores para semigrupos multívocos.
In this work we developed an abstract theory for existence and characterization of attractors for multivalued semigroups defined by generalized semi ows and we apply the abstract results to systems of p-laplacian differential inclusions and we obtain upper semicontinuity of the attractors as the parameter of diffusion goes to infinity.

7. Macromolecular Content of Inclusions Produced by a Canine Adenovirus
Early inclusions induced by a canine adenovirus in a canine cell line, appearing before the formation of infectious virus particles, were purified by differential centrifugation in sucrose followed by CsCl density gradient centrifugation. Chemical analysis of these inclusions revealed that they contained deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid, and pro

8. Protein inclusions produced by the entomopathogenic bacterium Xenorhabdus nematophilus subsp. nematophilus.
The entomopathogenic bacterium Xenorhabdus nematophilus subsp. nematophilus produces two types of intracellular inclusion bodies during in vitro culture. Large cigar-shaped inclusions (designated type 1) and smaller ovoid inclusions (designated type 2) were purified from cell lysates, using differential centrifugation in discontinuous glycerol gradients and

9. Isolation and Characterization of Intracellular Protein Inclusions Produced by the Entomopathogenic Bacterium Photorhabdus luminescens
Cells of the entomopathogenic bacterium Photorhabdus luminescens contain two types of morphologically distinct crystalline inclusion proteins. The larger rectangular inclusion (type 1) and a smaller bipyramid-shaped inclusion (type 2) were purified from cell lysates by differential centrifugation and isopycnic density gradient centrifugation. Both structures

10. Differential interaction with endocytic and exocytic pathways distinguish parasitophorous vacuoles of Coxiella burnetii and Chlamydia trachomatis.
Coxiella burnetii and Chlamydia trachomatis are bacterial obligate intracellular parasites that occupy distinct vacuolar niches within eucaryotic host cells. We have employed immunofluorescence, cytochemistry, fluorescent vital stains, and fluid-phase markers in conjunction with electron, confocal, and conventional microscopy to characterize the vacuolar env

11. The pathology of cornea in Tangier disease (familial high density lipoprotein deficiency).
AIMS: To clarify the underlying causes of corneal opacification in Tangier disease. METHODS: Both corneas were removed at death from a 62 year old man with Tangier disease, and were examined by direct and transmission electron microscopy, histochemistry, biochemical analysis by thin-layer and gas-liquid chromatography after extraction, and by differential sc

12. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid cell counts in cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis and their relation to therapy.
Bronchoalveolar lavage was used to sample inflammatory cells from the lungs of 51 patients with cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis (CFA) (24 smokers, 12 ex-smokers, and 15 non-smokers). The smokers with CFA have been compared with 15 smoking control subjects in whom there was no radiographic abnormality or clinical evidence of chronic bronchitis. Significantly
