2. Occult HBV infection status among chronic hepatitis C and hemodialysis patients in Northeastern Egypt: regional and national overview
INTRODUCTION: Occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) is considered to be one of the major risks for patients suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on regular hemodialysis (HD) and patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. This study compared the prevalence of OBI among these two high-risk groups in the Suez Canal region, Northeastern Egyp

3. Production of inulinase from Kluyveromyces marxianus using Dahlia tuber extract
Various carbon sources were evaluated for production of inulinase by yeast, Kluyveromyces marxianus MTCC 3995. Highest inulinase activity was observed with Dahlia extract (25.3 nkat mL-1) as carbon source. The enzyme activity was 1.4 folds higher than that observed in media containing pure chicory inulin (17.8 nkat mL-1). The yeast showed good growth on a si

5. Estrutura floral das angiospermas usadas por Heliconius erato phyllis (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil / Flower structure of angiosperns used byheliconius erato Phyllis(Lepidoptera, nymphalidae in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil
A field survey of flowering plants used as food resource by the adults of Heliconius erato phyllis (Fabricius, 1775) was carried out in four sites located in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Samples were taken in preserved areas of the Atlantic Rain and Myrtaceae forests, an Eucalyptus plantation, and an urban park. Adult feeding frequencies on flowers were

This thesis describes the effects on the system water-soil-plant caused by the use of effluents for irrigation of plots of flowers in the Federal District. Also, from the perspective of Multicriteria Analysis, this work describes and applies a methodology for selection of systems for water reuse in irrigation, using data from a pilot study conducted previous

7. Fungos associados a sementes e plantas ornamentais herbáceas no Distrito Federal

8. PROTEIN-PROTEIN INTERACTION ANALYSIS OF THE DEFENSIN PSD1 FROM PISUM SATIVUM WITH NEUROSPORA CRASSA PROTEINS / ANÁLISE DA INTERAÇÃO PROTÉICA DA DEFENSINA PSD1 DE PISUM SATIVUM COM PROTEÍNAS DO FUNGO NEUROSPORA CRASSA
Plant defensins, innate components of the plant immune system, are cationic, antifungal peptides, with a cysteine- rich primary structure. Evidence from the literature demonstrated that fungus membrane patches containing complex sphingolipids, mannosyldiinositolphosphorylceramide and glucosylceramides, are selective binding sites for the plant defensins isol

10. A gene encoding a sphingolipid biosynthesis enzyme determines the sensitivity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to an antifungal plant defensin from dahlia (Dahlia merckii)
We have previously identified a Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutant that is markedly more resistant than wild-type to Dahlia merckii antimicrobial peptide 1 (DmAMP1), an antifungal plant defensin isolated from seeds of dahlia (Dahlia merckii). A complementation approach was followed that consisted of the introduction of a genomic library of DmAMP1-sensitive wild

11. cDNA Cloning, Heterologous Expressions, and Functional Characterization of Malonyl-Coenzyme A:Anthocyanidin 3-O-Glucoside-6"-O-Malonyltransferase from Dahlia Flowers1
In the flowers of important ornamental Compositae plants, anthocyanins generally carry malonyl group(s) at their 3-glucosyl moiety. In this study, for the first time to our knowledge, we have identified a cDNA coding for this 3-glucoside-specific malonyltransferase for anthocyanins, i.e. malonyl-coenzyme A:anthocyanidin 3-O-glucoside-6"-O-malonyltransferase,

12. Production of high concentrations of ethanol from inulin by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation using Aspergillus niger and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Pure nonhydrolyzed inulin was directly converted to ethanol in a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation process. An inulinase-hyperproducing mutant, Aspergillus niger 817, was grown in a submerged culture at 30 degrees C for 5 days. The inulin-digestive liquid culture (150 ml) was supplemented with 45 g of inulin, 0.45 g of (NH4)2SO4, and 0.15 g of K
