13. SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF NEW Cu (II), Co (II) AND Sn (II) COMPLEXES WITH THE SODIUM HYDROTRIS(2-MERCAPTOTHIAZOLYL)BORATE LIGAND
The emergence of antibiotic resistance among microbial pathogens is a serious public health problem, resulting in a constant need of discovering new antibiotics. For this purpose, we synthetized and determined the antimicrobial activity of copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), and tin (Sn) complexes coordinated with scorpionate ligand in a tridentate mode against microo

14. A Highly Selective Colorimetric Sensor for Cysteine Detection
Introducing a hybrid xanthene as a fluorophore, an ‘ensemble’-based fluorescent sensor (E)-2-(6-(diethylamino)-2-((2-hydroxyphenylimino)methyl)-3-oxo-3H-xanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid (a) was designed and synthesised for detection of cysteine. Cysteine can release CuII ion from the non-fluorescent a-CuII complex. Then hydrolytic cleavage of Schiff base a prod

15. New Metal-Organic Systems with a Functionalized Oxamate-Type Ligand and MnII, FeII, CuII and ZnII
Four new complexes of formula [Fe(H2pcpa)2(H2O)2] (1), {[Mn(Hpcpa)(H2O)3]•1/2H2O}n (2), {[Zn(Hpcpa)(H2O)3]•1/2H2O}n (3) and [Cu2(Hpcpa)2(bipy)2]•8H2O (4) [H3pcpa = N-(4-carboxyphenyl)oxamic acid; bipy = 2,2¢-bipyridine] have been synthesized and their structures determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure of 1 consists of mononuclear iron(II) units

16. Chemosensor Development of Cu2+ Recognition Using 1,5-Diphenylthiocarbazone: Optimization, COSMO-RS and DFT Studies
The sensitive and selective chemosensor for copper(II) ions (Cu2+) was successfully optimized using the 1,5-diphenylthiocarbazone (DPT) compound. The result showed that dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in a 9:1 (DMSO:water) ratio at a pH of 3 was the optimum medium for DPT to act as chemosensor of Cu2+ recognition. The DPT chemosensor did not encounter any interfer

17. NONDESTRUCTIVE ESTIMATION OF LEAF NUTRIENT CONCENTRATIONS IN EUCALYPTUS PLANTATIONS
ABSTRACT Determination of leaf nutrient concentrations is traditionally performed by carrying out destructive procedures, requiring laboratory chemical analysis, specialized equipment, and skilled labor. However, technological advances in recent years have now made it possible to analyze leaf nutrient concentrations using non-destructive methods such as leaf

18. Potential of hydrogen (pH) differentially modulates cadmium stress response in abscisic acid-deficient sitiens tomato mutant
ABSTRACT Uptake of nutrients and cadmium (Cd) are dependent upon many factors, including plant species, ions concentration and pH. Tolerance to Cd-induced oxidative stress can be modulated by phytohormones such as abscisic acid (ABA), which induce the production of reactive oxygen species, activating proteins and enzymes involved in stress response and possi

20. Application of a Novel Ion-Imprinted Polymer to the Separation of Traces of CdII Ions in Natural Water: Optimization by Box-Behnken Design
This study describes the preparation of a novel ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) to apply pre-concentration of cadmium ions in water samples of the Pontal Bay in Ilhéus, Brazil. First, cadmium ion was complexed with 2-(2-thiazolylazo)-p-cresol (TAC). Subsequently, there was the polymerization using ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and methacrylic acid monomers alo

21. Mixed Ternary Mononuclear Copper(II) Complexes Based on Valproic Acid with 1,10-Phenanthroline and 2,2'-Bipyridine Ligands: DNA Interaction and Cytotoxicity in V79 Cells
This paper reports the DNA interaction and cytotoxicity of binary and ternary copper(II) complexes of valproic acid with phenanthroline or bipyridine and the complementary characterization of Cu(Valp)2Bipy by crystallography. Circular dichroism, plasmid and oligonucleotide assays have shown that the complexes interact with DNA in different manners and are ab
