1. Indústria cultural, repetição e totalização na trilogia Pânico / Culture industry, repetition and totalization in the Scream trilogy
Throughout last century, the culture industry s modus operandi was responsible for a standardizing movement in cultural artifacts, constituting a tensional axis between repetition and innovation that embraces all arts, but mainly in film, having the latter a greater need for returns in its production investments. That way, regarding the American cinema as th

6. Serogroup identification of meningococci by a modified antiserum agar method.
Modifications in the antiserum agar method for serogroup identification of meningococci, which reduce the amount of group-specific antisera required and increase long-term storage of prepoured antiserum agar plates, are described.

7. Electron Capture Gas-Liquid Chromatographic Study of Metabolites Produced by Some Arthritic Transudate-Associated Organisms In Vitro and In Vivo in Rabbit Models
Computerized, frequency-pulsed, modulated electron capture gas-liquid chromatography was used to study the acid metabolites produced in vitro in fetal calf serum and in vivo in an animal chamber model. Several strains of Diplostreptococcus agalactiae, Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus serogroups A, B, and G were studied. All o

8. Adrenal response to corticotropin during therapy with itraconazole.
Itraconazole is a triazole with a mechanism of action similar to that of ketoconazole. Endocrine side effects of ketoconazole, including impaired cortisol synthesis, have been well documented (A. Pont, J. R. Graybill, P. C. Craven, J. N. Galgiani, W. E. Dismukes, R. E. Reitz, and D. A. Stevens, Arch. Intern. Med. 144:2150-2153, 1984). We examined the adrenal

9. pH-dependent penicillin tolerance may protect intraleukocytic Staphylococcus aureus from killing by cloxacillin.
Exposure of Staphylococcus aureus to cloxacillin at neutral pH rendered the bacteria more susceptible to subsequent lysis by lysostaphin. This sensitization effect also occurred at lower pH levels which were nonpermissive for the bactericidal action of cloxacillin, but the effect disappeared at pH 5.0. These findings elucidate previous observations on the pr

10. Serogroup identification of Neisseria meningitidis: comparison of an antiserum agar method with bacterial slide agglutination.
A serum agar method for serogrouping Neisseria meningitidis is described and compared with conventional bacterial slide agglutination. There was 93% agreement for 300 strains examined individually by each method. Among strains from serogroups A, B, C, Y, and W135, there was 100% correlation, whereas strains from serogroup 29E (Z') had only 67% correlation. T

11. Three-Dimensional Organization of the 30S Ribosomal Proteins from Escherichia coli, I. Preliminary Classification of the Proteins
30S ribosomal subunits from Escherichia coli were reacted with three protein reagents. After reaction, the ribosomal proteins were extracted and examined; of the 20 proteins known to compose the particle, nine did not react with any of the three reagents. We have tentatively classified these proteins as „internal,” and the remaining eleven as „external

12. Rapid diagnosis of lymphocytic meningitis by frequency-pulsed electron capture gas-liquid chromatography: differentiation of tuberculous, cryptococcal, and viral meningitis.
Cerebrospinal fluid specimens from patients with tuberculous (17 cases), cryptococcal (15 cases), and viral (14 cases) meningitis were analyzed by frequency-pulsed electron capture gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Compounds that disappeared after therapy were found to be present in each of these specimens and were not detected in controls. Th
