13. Alternative food sources and overwintering feeding behavior of the boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis boheman (coleoptera: curculionidae) underthe tropical conditions of central Brazil
The boll weevil causes serious damage to the cotton crop in South America. Several studies have been published on this pest, but its phenology and behavior under the tropical conditions prevailing in Brazil are not well-known. In this study the feeding behavior and main food sources of adult boll weevils throughout the year in Central Brazil was investigated

Tecnologias atuais e potenciais de controle do bicudo-do-algodoeiro Anthonomus grandis (Boh. 1843) relacionadas ao Plano de Manejo do Parque Nacional das Emas / Current and potential technologies to the control of cotton boll weevil Anthonomus grandis (Boh., 1843) related to the handling plan of emas national park

15. Ecologia do bicudo-do-algodoeiro Anthonomus grandis Boheman, 1843 (Coleoptera:Curculionidae) no Cerrado do Brasil Central
The boll weevil Anthonomus grandis Boheman, 1843 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), one of the main pests of cotton, was introduced in Brazil in 1983. It causes the most serious damage to the crop, such as the falling of the flower buds, destruction of bolls and reduced linter production. The serious pest status of the boll weevil is mainly due to its high reprodu

The cotton boll weevil Anthonomus grandis is an important insect-pest, that causes severe damage in cotton floral fruits and buds. The A. gradis larvae development control is a difficult job because it occurs inside the cotton floral structures. Starch granules from cotton structure are digested by a-amylases secreted to the intestinal lumen. However, a-amyl

17. Investigation of a novel Bacillus thuringiensis toxin
The aim of the present work was to investigate the toxicity, biochemical characteristics, gene and protein contents, and the mechanism of action of toxins from the Brazilian Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strain S725. This strain has been reported as toxic against the cotton boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis), a severe pest of cotton crops in America, which is co

Host feeding plants of adult boll weevils (Anthonomus grandis Boheman) were determined within the period: January 1997 - December 1999. This took place through the identification of pollen grains, isolated from the digestive tracts of boll weevils captured in pheromone traps placed in a transect line which passes through the localities of Montecarlo, San Ign

The aim of this work was to determine the levels of carbohydrate, soluble proteins and free amino acids of larvae, pupae and adult females Catolaccus grandis Burks (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) which were reared in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium Hutch) boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) larvae venomized by ectoparasitoid of female and 1st instar ect

The object of the present thesis was to create a simulator in order to analyse the population dynamics of the cotton boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis, interacting simulation systems and artificial intelligence techniques. A computer program capable of elucidating and make good interpretation to monitoring data collected in cotton fields subjected to Insect Pe

The present study was undertaken in order to reveal some ecological aspects of the cotton boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman (Coleóptera, Curculionidae) under field conditions in Campinas, State of São Paulo. Populations densities of this insect pest, during and between cotton seasons, were estimated. Survey of some natural enemies was realize

22. Abscission of Cotton Flower Buds and Petioles Caused by Protein From Boll Weevil Larvae
Protein extracted from boll weevil larvae causes abscission of cotton flower buds and debladed petioles. Abscission of buds is preceded by a rapid and persistent flaring of bracts; cell proliferation is induced in the abscission zone of debladed petioles. A possible mode of transmission of the agent from larva to bud tissue is discussed.

23. Expression and Chloroplast Targeting of Cholesterol Oxidase in Transgenic Tobacco Plants
Cholesterol oxidase represents a novel type of insecticidal protein with potent activity against the cotton boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman). We transformed tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) plants with the cholesterol oxidase choM gene and expressed cytosolic and chloroplast-targeted versions of the ChoM protein. Transgenic leaf tissues expressing
