13. Femtoliter Scale Detection of an Antithyroid Drug Using Gold Nanoparticles in a Microfluidic Chip
Sensitive detection of methimazole (MMI) at the femtoliter (fL) scale has been achieved based on photo thermal lensing of gold nanoparticles (GNPs). GNPs were used because their surface plasmon resonance (SPR) have absorption in visible range. A combined glass microfluidic chip-photo thermal lens microscopy (MFC-PTLM) system with appropriate laser source was

14. Chemical resistance of core-shell particles (PS/PMMA) polymerized by seeded suspension
Abstract Core-shell particles were produced on seeded suspension polymerization by using polystyrene (PS) as polymer core, or seed, and methyl methacrylate (MMA) as the shell forming monomer. Two synthesis routes were evaluated by varying the PS seed conversion before MMA addition. The main purpose of this work was to investigate the influence of synthesis r

15. Luminescent and Magnetic Properties of Fe3O4@SiO2:phen:Eu3+
Magnetite was doped with rare earth ions (europium) to produce core-shell materials with both magnetic and luminescent properties, i.e., a magnetic Fe3O4 oxide core and a SiO2:phen:Eu3+ shell. The resulting material was analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, and subjected to magnetic and luminescence emission measurements.

16. Synthesis of Submicrometer Calcium Carbonate Particles from Inorganic Salts Using Linear Polymers as Crystallization Modifiers
In this study, we report the synthesis of submicrometer calcium carbonate particles using the simplest approach of mixing solutions of calcium chloride and ammonium carbonate inorganic precursors in the presence of crystallization modifiers. Instead of the typical crystallization of CaCO3 into large calcite crystals with rhombohedral morphology, very small u

17. Modification of Vietnam Natural Rubber via Graft Copolymerization with Styrene
Graft copolymerization of styrene onto deproteinized natural rubber (DPNR) using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHPO) and tetraethylene pentamine (TEPA) as redox initiator have been investigated. The effects of initiator and monomer concentration on conversion and grafting efficiency were studied. The dynamic mechanical and thermal properties of the graft copoly

18. Preparation of novel magnetic polyurethane foam nanocomposites by using core-shell nanoparticles
Abstract Iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (NP's) converted to the core- shell structres by reacting with by n-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyl trimethoxysilane (AEAP) incorporated in polyurethane flexible (PUF) foam formulations. Fourier transform spectra, thermal gravimetric analysis, scanning electron images, thermo-mechanical analysis and magnetic properties

19. α-Tocopherol loaded thermosensitive polymer nanoparticles: preparation, in vitro release and antioxidant properties
Abstract α-Tocopherol is the most bioavailable and active compound found in vitamin E with potential application in pharmaceutical, alimentary and cosmetic industries. However, its low solubility in aqueous medium and environmental instability limit its dosage. In this paper, we report the preparation of α-tocopherol loaded nanoparticles (TOC-NP) based on

20. Synthesis, Characterization and Electromagnetic Properties of SnO-coated FeNi Alloy Nanocapsules
SnO-coated FeNi alloy nanocapsules have been synthesized by an arc-discharge method. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis show that the nanocapsules have a shell/core structure with FeNi alloy nanoparticles as the core and amorphous SnO as the shell. Dielectric relaxation of SnO shell and the interfac

21. Carbon Nanotube@MnO2@Polypyrrole Composites: Chemical Synthesis, Characterization and Application in Supercapacitors
Abstract Core/shell structures of carbon-based materials/ metal oxide have been considered as potential candidates for electrochemical devices due to their improved pseudocapacitance/electrical double layer capacitance and high conductivity/ superior surface area. The development of multiple core-shell structures of MWCNT@MnO2@PPy was analyzed as a standard

22. A Doubly Curved Axisymmetric Finite Element for Subsea Sandwich Domes
Abstract The paper focuses on the analysis of sandwich domes using a newly developed doubly curved axisymmetric sandwich finite element. The simple equivalent single layer finite element employs a cubic polynomial approximation for transverse displacement and meridional displacement. The present element accounts for the transverse shear strains of the facing

23. Intravenous ferric carboxymaltose for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia
ABSTRACT Nutritional iron deficiency anemia is the most common deficiency disorder, affecting more than two billion people worldwide. Oral iron supplementation is usually the first choice for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia, but in many conditions, oral iron is less than ideal mainly because of gastrointestinal adverse events and the long course

24. Evaluation of Monolithic and Core-Shell Columns for Separation of Triazine Herbicides by Reversed Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography
Monolithic and core-shell columns were comparatively evaluated for separation of deisopropylatrazine (DIA), deethylatrazine (DEA), hydroxyatrazine (HAT), simazine (SIM) and atrazine (ATR) under similar conditions of elution, flow rate and sample volume. Although both columns provided separation of the analytes with resolution > 1.5, the core-shell column exh
