1. Macroecology of the genus Uca (Crustacea, Decapoda): patterns of diversity, distribution and responses to global climate change / Macroecologia do gênero Uca (Crustacea, Decapoda): padrões de diversidade, distribuição e respostas às mudanças climáticas globais
Macroecology of the genus Uca (Crustacea, Decapoda): Patterns of diversity, distribution and responses to global change. The genus Uca, composed by 97 species, has a worldwide distribution on coastal marine regions, mainly in tropical environments. Many researches have used the genus Uca as a model of study, although the actual scientific knowledge about thi

3. Mapping QTL affecting growth traits in chicken chromosomes 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 / Mapeamento de QTL nos cromossomos 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 e 18 da galinha doméstica (Gallus gallus) que influenciam características de desempenho
An F2 chicken population was developed by crossing broiler line (TT) with a layer line (CC). Seven males TT were mated with seven females CC to generate an F1 population. Each male F1 was then mated with three unrelated females F1 generating approximately 100 individual per family of dam. On the present study 5 families were used, which showed the greatest n

4. Financing alternatives for the General Regime of Social Security and its implications in the Brazilian economy / Alternativas de financiamento para o Regime Geral de Previdência Social e suas implicações na economia brasileira
Since the Constitution of 1988, the deficit of the General Regime of Social Security (RGPS) has been increasing gradually, becoming the target of intense discussions in the Brazilian debate agenda. The need for changes in RGPS in order to reach the balance of public expenses and consequently economic development has become consensus in the Country. The objec

6. Identification and High-Density Mapping of Gene-Rich Regions in Chromosome Group 1 of Wheat
We studied the distribution of genes and recombination in wheat (Triticum aestivum) group 1 chromosomes by comparing high-density physical and genetic maps. Physical maps of chromosomes 1A, 1B, and 1D were generated by mapping 50 DNA markers on 56 single-break deletion lines. A consensus physical map was compared with the 1D genetic map of Triticum tauschii

7. Generation of a High-Density Rat EST Map
We have developed a high-density EST map of the rat, consisting of >11,000 ESTs. These ESTs were placed on a radiation hybrid framework map of genetic markers spanning all 20 rat autosomes, plus the X chromosome. The framework maps have a total size of ∼12,400 cR, giving an average correspondence of 240 kb/cR. The frameworks are all LOD 3 chromosomal maps

8. Analyses of the DNA-binding and transcriptional activation properties of ExsA, the transcriptional activator of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa exoenzyme S regulon.
ExsA has been implicated as a central regulator of exoenzyme S production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In this study, the DNA-binding and transcriptional activation properties of ExsA were investigated. ExsA was produced and purified as a fusion protein, MALA3A2, which was shown to bind specifically to promoter regions that regulated transcription of the exoen

9. Mapping rehabilitation resources for head injury
Several reports have pointed to the unevenness in the UK of services for rehabilitation after head injury. A study was conducted in the Eastern Region of England to define the key stages in recovery and rehabilitation, by an iterative process of questionnaire, interview and consensus conference. Findings were translated into a draft set of maps showing curre

10. Diphtheria toxin promoter function in Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Escherichia coli.
The expression of the diphtheria tox228 gene encoding the nontoxic, serologically related CRM228 mutant diphtheria toxin has been analyzed in Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Escherichia coli. The diphtheria toxin promoter has been used to direct the expression of beta-galactosidase in E.coli, and the efficiency of promotion has been compared to that obtained

11. Extreme heterogeneity in populations of vesicular stomatitis virus.
Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) sequence evolution and population heterogeneity were examined by T1 oligonucleotide mapping. Individual clones isolated from clonal pools of wild-type Indiana serotype VSV displayed identical T1 maps. This was observed even after one passage at high concentrations of the potent viral mutagen 5-fluorouracil. Under low-multipli

12. The iab-7 Polycomb Response Element Maps to a Nucleosome-Free Region of Chromatin and Requires Both GAGA and Pleiohomeotic for Silencing Activity
In the work reported here we have undertaken a functional dissection of a Polycomb response element (PRE) from the iab-7 cis-regulatory domain of the Drosophila melanogaster bithorax complex (BX-C). Previous studies mapped the iab-7 PRE to an 860-bp fragment located just distal to the Fab-7 boundary. Located within this fragment is an ∼230-bp chromatin-spe
