13. IPR 102 - Dwarf Arabica coffee cultivar with resistance to bacterial halo blight
Abstract ‘IPR 102’ is a coffee cultivar derivative from a cross between “Catuaí” and “Icatu”. ‘IPR 102’ is a dwarf cultivar (medium size) with high rusticity, late ripening cycle, and it is resistant to bacterial halo blight and partial resistant to coffee leaf rust.

14. SH1 leaf rust and bacterial halo blight coffee resistances are genetically independent
ABSTRACT Coffee resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. garcae has been associated to pleiotropic effect of SH1 allele, present in coffee plants resistant to certain races of Hemileia vastatrix, the causal agent of leaf rust, or genetic linkage between resistance alleles to both pathogens. To validate this hypothesis, 63 coffee plants in F2 generation were ev

15. Coffea arabica clones resistant to coffee leaf miner
Abstract Brazilian arabica coffee production is based on a set of highly productive cultivars sexually propagated. All of them are susceptible to coffee leaf miner, Leucoptera coffeella, and most of them are also susceptible to coffee leaf rust, Hemileia vastatrix. Aiming to reduce the selection process of cultivars with multiple resistances to both biotic c

16. Effects of UV-B radiation on Lecanicillium spp., biological control agents of the coffee leaf rust pathogen
Coffee leaf rust is the main disease of coffee and its causal agent is naturally hyperparasited by Lecanicillium lecanii, indicating its potential for biocontrol. Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation is an important factor that interferes on application of biocontrol agents, and Lecanicillium can be affected by UV-B. The objective of this work was to evaluate the

17. Effect of foliar application of potassium silicate on the progress of coffee leaf rust
In order to evaluate the effect of potassium silicate spray on the control of coffee leaf rust and coffee yield, an experiment was conducted during the 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 growing seasons on Coffea arabica cv. Catuaí Vermelho IAC 144, in a location situated at an elevation of 850 m in Coimbra, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The treatments consisted of: 1 - potas

18. New coffee (Coffea arabica) genotypes derived from Coffea canephora exhibiting high levels of resistance to leaf rust and Ceratocystis canker
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the resistance to coffee leaf rust (CLR) caused by Hemileia vastatrix and to Ceratocystis canker (Cc) in coffee genotypes derived from crosses of Coffea arabica var. Caturra with accessions of C. canephora backcrossed to Caturra. Twenty-three F3BC1 progenies including C. arabica var. Caturra and var. Colombia as cont

19. Antifungal compounds as a mechanism to control Hemileia vastatrix by antagonistic bacteria
Pseudomonas putida P286 and Bacillus thuringiensis B157 controlled coffee rust under greenhouse and field conditions. Now we studied the mechanism(s) of antagonism of both bacteria to Hemileia vastatrix. Bacterial effects on urediniospore germination and disease severity were evaluated in experiments with six treatments: (i) growth broth, (ii) supernatant ce

20. Rust resistance in Arabic Coffee cultivars in northern Paraná
The objective of the study was to evaluate the resistance to rust in coffee cultivars developed by research institutes of Brazil in Paraná state. Resistance to the local leaf rust races was assessed in high disease intensity field conditions at Londrina and Congonhinhas in 2009 and 2010.The cultivars were developed by the EPAMIG/UFV, IAPAR, IAC and MAPA/Pro

21. Additional physiological races of coffee leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix) identified in Kenya
Coffee leaf rust (CLR), caused by the fungus Hemileia vastatrix, is among the most important diseases affecting coffee all over the world. In Kenya, it is currently the second most important disease, and breeding coffee to obtain new resistant cultivars has been a priority. Over time, new rust pathogenic races able to infect hitherto resistant coffee genotyp

22. Epidemiologia e resistência do cafeeiro conilon à ferrugem / Epidemiology and resistance of coffee conilon to rust

A ferruge

24. Identificação e caracterização de genes que codificam proteínas secretadas por Hemileia vastatrix na interação com o cafeeiro / Identification and characterization of genes encoding proteins secreted by Hemileia vastatrix during interaction with coffee
The coffee leaf rust caused by the biotrophic fungus Hemileia vastatrix, it is the most important fungal disease of coffee, causing productivity losses and its control increases the costs of coffee production. This study aimed to identify genes of H. vastatrix that encode secreted proteins that may function as effectors needed for the establishment of the bi
