1. Estudo dos nÃveis salivares de mioinositol e quiroinositol em crianÃas saudÃveis e portadores de diabetes infanto- juvenil / Study of myo-inositol and Chyro-inositol salivary levels on healthy and diabetic children
Diabetes mellitus is a disease of multiples causes that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces, causing a rise in blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia). It is not clear the action mechanism of insulin but it has been suggested that inositol phosphoglicans, such as myoinos

5. D-chiro-inositol metabolism in diabetes mellitus.
D-chiro-inositol is a rare inositol isomer present in inositol phosphoglycans which are proposed mediators of insulin action. To study D-chiro-inositol metabolism in diabetes mellitus, a sensitive and specific assay was developed using negative-ion chemical ionization gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Median urinary D-chiro-inositol excretion, which was

6. chiro-inositol deficiency and insulin resistance: a comparison of the chiro-inositol- and the myo-inositol-containing insulin mediators isolated from urine, hemodialysate, and muscle of control and type II diabetic subjects.
chiro- and myo-Inositols are major components of the two inositol phosphoglycan mediators of insulin action. Previous work in this laboratory has shown hypo-chiro-inositoluria in type II diabetic subjects and decreased chiro-inositol in mediator prepared from skeletal-muscle biopsies of Pima Indian diabetic subjects together with increased myo-inositol conce

7. Insulin stimulates the biosynthesis of chiro-inositol-containing phospholipids in a rat fibroblast line expressing the human insulin receptor.
HIRc-B cells (rat fibroblasts expressing the human insulin receptor) were incubated with myo-[3H]inositol for 48 hr, and the biosynthesis of chiro-[3H]inositol was investigated in the absence and presence of insulin following a time course up to 60 min. After phase separation, treatment with insulin for 15 min caused a 2.2-fold increase in the specific radio

8. Chiral synthesis of D- and L-myo-inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate.
Chiral inositols (D-chiro-inositol from D-pinitol and L-chiro-inositol from L-quebrachitol) were converted to the 3,4-di-O-benzyl ethers, which were selectively benzoylated to yield the 1,2,5-tri-O-benzoyl-3,4-di-O-benzyl-chiro-inositols. The free hydroxyl group in each derivative was inverted by way of the trifluoromethane sulfonate ester to provide D- and

9. Insulin-induced activation of glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase by a chiro-inositol-containing insulin mediator is defective in adipocytes of insulin-resistant, type II diabetic, Goto-Kakizaki rats.
Type II diabetic Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats were insulin-resistant in euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp studies. We therefore examined insulin signaling systems in control Wistar and diabetic GK rats. Glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase (G3PAT), which is activated by headgroup mediators released from glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI), was activated by insuli

10. Carbohydrates in Soybean Nodules: II. DISTRIBUTION OF COMPOUNDS IN SEEDLINGS DURING THE ONSET OF NITROGEN FIXATION 1
During the first few days of nitrogen fixation activity by soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr) root nodules, d-chiro-inositol, myo-inositol, sucrose, α,α-trehalose, and maltose accumulate rapidly and reach concentrations several fold greater than concentrations in other plant organs. Concentrations of d-pinitol in nodules (≥1.0 milligrams per gram fresh weig

11. Carbohydrate, Organic Acid, and Amino Acid Composition of Bacteroids and Cytosol from Soybean Nodules 1
Metabolites in Bradyrhizobium japonicum bacteroids and in Glycine max (L.) Merr. cytosol from root nodules were analyzed using an isolation technique which makes it possible to estimate and correct for changes in concentration which may occur during bacteroid isolation. Bacteroid and cytosol extracts were fractionated on ion-exchange columns and were analyze

12. Facilitation of the responses to injections of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate analogs in Limulus ventral photoreceptors.
Injection of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate and its metabolically resistant analogs InsP3S3 and L-chiro-2,3,5-InsP3 into the ventral photoreceptors of Limulus results in the release of calcium from internal stores and in a current flow into the cells. We show here that the dependence of the current response on the amount of analog injected is supralinear. The
