1. Modeling random corrosion processes via polynomial chaos expansion
Polynomial Chaos Expansion (PCE) is widely recognized as a flexible tool to represent different types of random variables/processes. However, applications to real, experimental data are still limited. In this article, PCE is used to represent the random time-evolution of metal corrosion growth in marine environments. The PCE coefficients are determined in or

Computability and limits of physical theories mathematics: applications in electric power systems.
No limite, seria possível prever o estado do universo e

3. Sobre caos homoclinico : aplicações a ciencia da engenharia e mecanica / Homoclinic chaos : applications to the science of engineering and mechanics

4. Sistemas de comunicação utilizando sinais caóticos. / Communication systems using chaotic signals.

5. Random matrices and quantum chaos
The theory of random matrices has far-reaching applications in many different areas of mathematics and physics. In this note, we briefly describe the state of the theory and two of the perhaps most surprising appearances of random matrices, namely in the theory of quantum chaos and in the theory of prime numbers.

6. Three into two won't go
Amid the chaos over applications for medical training posts in the UK, everyone is asking: how could the government have got its numbers so wrong? Lynn Eaton reports

7. Chaos and the evolution of cooperation.
The "iterated prisoner's dilemma" is the most widely used model for the evolution of cooperation in biological societies. Here we show that a heterogeneous population consisting of simple strategies, whose behavior is totally specified by the outcome of the previous round, can lead to persistent periodic or highly irregular (chaotic) oscillations in the freq

8. Approximate entropy as a measure of system complexity.
Techniques to determine changing system complexity from data are evaluated. Convergence of a frequently used correlation dimension algorithm to a finite value does not necessarily imply an underlying deterministic model or chaos. Analysis of a recently developed family of formulas and statistics, approximate entropy (ApEn), suggests that ApEn can classify co

9. Fundamental clusters in spatial 2x2 games.
The notion of fundamental clusters is introduced, serving as a rule of thumb to characterize the statistical properties of the complex behaviour of cellular automata such as spatial 2 x 2 games. They represent the smallest cluster size determining the fate of the entire system. Checking simple growth criteria allows us to decide whether the cluster-individua
