1. Central limit theorems for correlated variables: some critical remarks
In this talk I first review at an elementary level a selection of central limit theorems, including some lesser known cases, for sums and maxima of uncorrelated and correlated random variables. I recall why several of them appear in physics. Next, I show that there is room for new versions of central limit theorems applicable to specific classes of problems.

2. Nonadditive entropy and nonextensive statistical mechanics -an overview after 20 years
Statistical mechanics constitutes one of the pillars of contemporary physics. Recognized as such - together with mechanics (classical, quantum, relativistic), electromagnetism and thermodynamics -, it is one of the mandatory theories studied at virtually all the intermediate-and advanced-level courses of physics around the world. As it normally happens with

4. Burni-in and warranty processes in coherent systems under the general lifetime model / Processos de burn-in e de garantia em sistemas coerentes sob o modelo de tempo de vida geral
In this work we consider three main topics. In the first two, we generalize some classical results on Reliability Theory related to the optimization in burn-in procedures and warranty policies, using the general lifetime model of a coherent system observed on the component level and extending the definitions of bathtub shaped failure rate and general failure

Nes

6. Aplicações de mecânica estatística a especiação simpátrica e inferência aproximativa / Applications of statistical mechanics to sympatric speciation and aproximative inference
This thesis presents applications of the framework of Statistical Mechanics to two independent problems. The first corresponds to a computational model for the evolution of Assortative Mating in the Sympatric Speciation process; and the second a learning algorithm built by means of a Bayesian Inference approach. In the biological problem each individual in a

7. Teorema Central do Limite para o modelo O(N) de Heisenberg hierárquico na criticalidade e o papel do limite N ->infinito na dinâmica dos zeros de Lee-Yang / Central Limit Theorem for the hierarchical O(N) Heisenberg model at criticality and the role of the N ->infinity limit for the Lee-Yang zeros´s dynamics
In this work we stablish the Central Limit Theorem for the hierarchical O(N) Heisenberg model at criticality via partial differential equation in the limit N ->infinity. For simplicity we only treat the d = 4 case but the theorem is still valid for d >4. By studying a given partial differential equation (PDE) we determine for any d >2 the critical inverse te

8. Cohomologia e propriedades estocásticas de transformações expansoras e observáveis lipschitzianos / Cohomology and stochastics properties of expanding maps and lipschitzians observables
We prove the Central Limit Theorem for piecewise expanding interval transformations and observables with bounded variation, using the approach of J.Rousseau-Egele as described by A. Broise. This approach makes use of pertubations of the so-called Ruelle-Perron-Frobenius transfer operator. An original contribution is given in the last chapter, where we prove

9. Multiple ionization effects in x-ray emission induced by heavy ions
The x-ray satellite structure of Pd Lalpha1,2(L3M4,5) transition excited by an impact of O7+ and Ne6+ ions with energies 279 and 178 MeV, respectively, which were measured using a high-resolution von Hamos crystal spectrometer, is discussed in terms of the multi-configuration Dirac-Fock (MCDF) calculations. We demonstrate, by using the arguments of the gener

ANÁLISE DE INTERFERÊNCIAS ENVOLVENDO SISTEMAS DE COMUNICAÇÃO QUE UTILIZAM SATÉLITES NÃO-GESTACIONÁRIOS: CASO EM QUE PARCELAS DE INTERFERÊNCIA SÃO MODELADAS POR VARIÁVEIS ALEATÓRIAS / INTERFERENCE ANALYSIS INVOLVING COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS THAT UTILIZE NON-GEOSTATIONARY SATELLITES: MODELING SINGLE-ENTRY INTERFERENCE TERMS RANDOM VARIABLES
The objective of this work is to extend the use of the Analytical Method for assessing the interference involving non-geostationary satellite networks to situations where the interference entries from the various satellites in a given Constellations are modeled as statistically independent random variables. The analysis of this type of situation requires a l

12. Cooperative foraging, productivity, and the central limit theorem.
The central limit theorem is applied to group foraging to show an automatic and universal benefit to group living. This may explain the paradoxical inverse correlation between group size and per capita brood production in primitively eusocial insects and why only one of the five major lineages of social insects contains species that revert to solitary habit.
