1. Shelf-life of loricariid catfish (Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus [Weber, 1991]) roe stored in ice
Abstract Loricariid catfish (Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus [Weber, 1991]) has invaded water catchments throughout the world, due to the lack of predators and high fecundity. An approach to control its population could be using its roe as food; however, more knowledge is needed. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the shelf-life of fresh loricariid catf

2. The Effect of Water Parameters and Dissolved Minerals on the Hematological Parameters of during Breeding Period Catfish (Silurus glanis)
Abstract In this study, the blood parameters of catfish (Silurus glanis Linnaeus, 1758) inhabiting Çelik Lake (Adıyaman, Turkey) were investigated. The study was conducted between April 2013 and October 2013. After obtaining a blood sample from each catfish has been hematologically analyzed. Then, the water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, calcium, magne

3. Upstream dam impacts on gilded catfish Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) in the Bolivian Amazon
ABSTRACT This paper explores the effects of two run-of-river dams (Jirau and Santo Antônio) built in cascade in the middle Madeira River (Brazil) on the interruption of long-distance migration routes of the gilded catfish (Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii). A participative monitoring system was set up to compare capture by commercial fishers approximately 1500

4. Parasitism of the isopod Riggia puyensis Rodríguez-Haro et al. in two armored catfish from Pastaza Province (Ecuador)
Abstract: Riggia puyensis, an ectoparasitic isopod, was collected in juvenile Chaetostoma breve and Chaetostoma microps host specimens from the Amazonian region of Ecuador. The aim of this work is to study the possible injury that the parasite causes in its host. R. puyensis was found covered by a fold of the skin, which formed a sort of pocket or pouch with

5. Metabolic responses to dietary carbohydrate/lipids ratios in neotropical hybrid catfish (♂Pseudoplatystoma corruscans×♀Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum)
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of different carbohydrate and lipid (CHO/L) ratios on the performance and energy metabolism of hybrid catfish (♂Pseudoplatystoma corruscans × ♀ Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum). One hundred and sixty-eight fish (104.9±16.5 g BW) were distributed into 24 100-L tanks. The experiment was performed u

7. Effect of replacing fish meal by full fat soybean meal on growth performance, feed utilization and gastrointestinal enzymes in diets for African catfish Clarias gariepinus

8. Transporting live silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) with salt addition does not mitigate fish stress and negatively affects meat quality
Abstract This study evaluated the effects of NaCl added to water during silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) transportation on stress and meat quality. Physiological indicators of stress (cortisol, glucose, circulating ions and liver glycogen) and meat quality parameters (rigor mortis, pH, instrumental color, psychotropic aerobic count and sensory analysis) were

9. New occurrence of Kudoa orbicularis parasitizing the freshwater catfish Trachelyopterus galeatus (Siluriformes: Auchenipteridae) in the Brazlian Amazon region
