1. Effects of limestone and organic fertilizer on cassava yield and on chemical and physical soil properties
ABSTRACT Cassava has a high yield potential that can be achieved with adequate liming and fertilization of the soil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of organic fertilizer application, in association or not with liming, on yield and morphological characteristics of cassava roots and on chemical and physical properties of the soil. The e

2. Agronomic and biochemical evaluation of cassava clones with roots that have pink pulp

3. BRS 400 and BRS 401, sweet cassava cultivars with pink roots developed by participatory breeding
Abstract Two sweet cassava cultivars with pink pulp, BRS 400 and BRS 401, are validated through participatory tests conducted at Distrito Federal, Brazil. Their high root yield stability and their high level of acceptance among producers certainly qualify them as a new crop option for cultivation in the region.

4. Culture medium and inoculation methodology for the study of soft root rot caused by Phytopythium sp.

5. GRANULOMETRY AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AS INDICATORS OF DISINTEGRATION EFFICIENCY IN A HAMMER MILL ADAPTED TO EXTRACTING ARROWROOT STARCH (Maranta arundinacea) IN COMPARISON TO STARCH EXTRACTION FROM CASSAVA
ABSTRACT The commercial sector of starch extraction has fully automated plants with a minimum scale of 200 ton.day–1, which extracts starch from maize and cassava in Brazil. Although these starches are commodities, the market demands starches with special properties obtained without chemical modifications. A higher-priced starch can compensate for small-sc

6. Proline synthesis and physiological response of cassava genotypes under in vitro salinity
RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a síntese de prolina e respostas fisiológicas de variedades de mandioca micropropagadas e induzidas ao estresse salino in vitro. Microestacas das variedades BRS Tapioqueira, BRS Verdinha e Lagoão previamente estabelecidas in vitro foram inoculadas em meio MS com diferentes concentrações de NaCl (0; 25; 50;

7. Chemical root traits differentiate ‘bitter’ and ‘sweet’ cassava accessions from the Amazon
Abstract ‘Bitter’ and ‘sweet’ cassava are normally distinguished based on the hydrocyanic acid (HCN) content of their roots. Moreover, Brazilian farmers tend to select ‘sweet’ cassava based on the taste and cooking aspects. The aim of this study was to characterize chemical traits of ‘bitter’ and ‘sweet’ cassava roots of the Amazon region

8. Methodologies for selecting cassava with resistance to dry and black root rot under controlled conditions
ABSTRACT Cassava root rot diseases such as dry and black root rot are listed among the major threats, since its affect the main product (tuberous roots), causing a progressive decline in yield and affecting subsequent crop cycles, being the use of resistant varieties the most reliable control measure on field level. The objective of this study was to identif

9. Productive potential of cassava plants (Manihot esculenta Crantz) propagated by leaf buds
ABSTRACT New techniques of rapid multiplication of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) have been developed, requiring technical support for large-scale use. This work main to evaluate the agronomic performance of plantlets obtained by leaf buds technique against stem cuttings in the field conditions. The work was conducted using the randomized block design in

10. Effect of Harvest Time and Nitrogen Doses on Cassava Root Yield and Quality
ABSTRACT Nitrogen is considered the most limiting nutrient for cassava, and N availability can influence the crop cycle, including earlier harvest. The aim of this study was to study the effect of harvest time on the production components of cassava, “Aciolina” cultivar, at different rates of N fertiliser. The experiment was carried out in an area newly

11. SIMANIHOT: A PROCESS-BASED MODEL FOR SIMULATING GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY OF CASSAVA
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to propose a model, named Simanihot, for simulating growth, development and yield of tuberous roots in cassava, with a choice of two soil water balance models. The model works on a day time step and is calibrated for five cassava cultivars (Fepagro –RS 14, Estrangeira, Cascuda, São José e Paraguaia), with differen

12. Food quantity and quality of cassava affected by leguminous residues and inorganic nitrogen application in a soil of low natural fertility of the humid tropics
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the quality and quantity of biofortified cassava root in a humid tropical environment can be modified with the application of a combination of low- and high-quality residues of leguminous tree species. The experiment was designed as a 6 × 2 factorial (a combination of 4 legume species versus 2 l
