1. Detection of carboxylesterase and esterase activity in culturable gut bacterial flora isolated from diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus), from India and its possible role in indoxacarb degradation
Abstract Diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus), is a notorious pest of brassica crops worldwide and is resistant to all groups of insecticides. The insect system harbors diverse groups of microbiota, which in turn helps in enzymatic degradation of xenobiotic-like insecticides. The present study aimed to determine the diversity of gut microfl

2. Isolation of an aryloxyphenoxy propanoate (AOPP) herbicide-degrading strain Rhodococcus ruber JPL-2 and the cloning of a novel carboxylesterase gene (feh)
The strain JPL-2, capable of degrading fenoxaprop-P-ethyl (FE), was isolated from the soil of a wheat field and identified as Rhodococcus ruber. This strain could utilize FE as its sole carbon source and degrade 94.6% of 100 mg L−1 FE in 54 h. Strain JPL-2 could also degrade other aryloxyphenoxy propanoate (AOPP) herbicides. The initial step of the degrada

3. Acetilcolinesterase, butirilcolinesterase, carboxilesterase e a resistência de peixes neotropicais aos pesticidas organofosforados / Acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, carboxylesterase and the resistenance of neotropical fishes to organophosphorus pesticides

4. Genetic Dissection of Clonally Inherited Genomes of Poeciliopsis: II. Investigation of a Silent Carboxylesterase Allele
According to the ratchet mechanism hypothesis, deleterious mutations should accumulate in clonal genomes of unisexual fish of the genus Poeciliopsis. This study defines one such mutant, a silent carboxylesterase allele (Es-5o) which is found in the heterozygous condition in a particular population of P. monacha-occidentalis. An antiserum to purified Poecilio

5. A single amino acid substitution converts a carboxylesterase to an organophosphorus hydrolase and confers insecticide resistance on a blowfly
Resistance to organophosphorus (OP) insecticides is associated with decreased carboxylesterase activity in several insect species. It has been proposed that the resistance may be the result of a mutation in a carboxylesterase that simultaneously reduces its carboxylesterase activity and confers an OP hydrolase activity (the “mutant ali-esterase hypothesis

6. In vivo human carboxylesterase cDNA gene transfer to activate the prodrug CPT-11 for local treatment of solid tumors.
To evaluate the concept that in vivo transfer of the human carboxylesterase gene will confer sensitivity of a solid tumor to the prodrug CPT-11 (irinotecan), we constructed an adenovirus vector (AdCMV.CE) carrying the human carboxylesterase gene driven by the cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter, infected A549 human lung adenocarcinoma cells in vitro and in vivo,

7. The effect of the insecticide dichlorvos on esterase activity extracted from the psocids, Liposcelis bostrychophila and L. entomophila
The inhibition kinetics of dichlorvos on carboxylesterase and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity extracted from Liposcelis bostrychophila and L. entomophila (Psocoptera: Liposcelididae) were compared. The results showed that L. entomophila had significantly greater specific activity of carboxylesterase than L. bostrychophila (0.045 versus 0.012 µmoles /mg

8. Association of carboxylesterase B electrophoretic pattern with presence and expression of urovirulence factor determinants and antimicrobial resistance among strains of Escherichia coli that cause urosepsis.
We determined the carboxylesterase B electrophoretic profiles of 74 blood isolates of Escherichia coli from patients with urosepsis. Most strains (64%) exhibited the B2 electrophoretic pattern. P fimbrial and hemolysin genetic determinants were present and expressed significantly more often among strains with the B2 than with the B1 electrophoretic pattern.

9. Two alternative modes for optimizing nylon-6 byproduct hydrolytic activity from a carboxylesterase with a β-lactamase fold: X-ray crystallographic analysis of directly evolved 6-aminohexanoate-dimer hydrolase
Promiscuous 6-aminohexanoate-linear dimer (Ald)-hydrolytic activity originally obtained in a carboxylesterase with a β-lactamase fold was enhanced about 80-fold by directed evolution using error-prone PCR and DNA shuffling. Kinetic studies of the mutant enzyme (Hyb-S4M94) demonstrated that the enzyme had acquired an increased affinity (Km = 15 mM) and turno

10. Human anti-endoplasmic reticulum antibodies in sera of patients with halothane-induced hepatitis are directed against a trifluoroacetylated carboxylesterase.
Previous studies have demonstrated that patients with halothane-induced hepatitis have serum antibodies that are directed against novel liver microsomal neoantigens and have suggested that these neoantigens may play an immunopathological role in development of the patients' liver damage. These investigations have further revealed that the antibodies are dire

11. Molecular epidemiology unravels the complexity of neonatal Escherichia coli acquisition in twins.
Combined analysis of restriction fragment length polymorphism of regions of genes coding for rRNA (ribotyping) and esterase electrophoretic typing was used to document neonatal acquisition of Escherichia coli in twins. Our study shows vertical mother-to-infant transmission of one strain of E. coli to one twin and the development of neonatal septicemia with a

12. Molecular and Biochemical Characterization of 2-Hydroxyisoflavanone Dehydratase. Involvement of Carboxylesterase-Like Proteins in Leguminous Isoflavone Biosynthesis1[w]
Isoflavonoids are ecophysiologically active secondary metabolites of the Leguminosae and known for health-promoting phytoestrogenic functions. Isoflavones are synthesized by 1,2-elimination of water from 2-hydroxyisoflavanones, the first intermediate with the isoflavonoid skeleton, but details of this dehydration have been unclear. We screened the extracts o
