25. Carbon Dioxide and Light Responses of Photosynthesis in Cowpea and Pigeonpea during Water Deficit and Recovery 1
Greenhouse-grown pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan, [L.] Millsp.; cultivar UW-10) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata, [L.] Walp.; cultivar California No. 5) were well-watered (control) or subjected to low water potential by withholding water to compare their modes of adaptation to water-limited conditions. Leaf CO2 exchange rate (CER), leaf diffusive conductance to CO2 (g

26. 31P nuclear magnetic resonance studies on the glycogenolysis regulation in resting and contracting frog skeletal muscle.
1. Regulation of glycogenolysis in frog skeletal muscle at rest and following contraction was studied by measuring the concentration of phosphate-containing metabolites and the intracellular pH (pHi) in CN-treated muscles, in which oxidative phosphorylation was inhibited by NaCN, using the 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. 2. When CN-treated mu

27. Physiological Site of Ethylene Effects on Carbon Dioxide Assimilation in Glycine max L. Merr 1
The physiological site of ethylene action on CO2 assimilation was investigated in intact plants of Glycine max L., using a whole-plant, open exposure system equipped witha remotely operated single-leaf cuvette. The objective of the study was met by investigating in control and ethylene-treated plants the (a) synchrony in response of CO2 assimilation, stomata

28. Measurement and Interpretation of the Oxygen Isotope Composition of Carbon Dioxide Respired by Leaves in the Dark
We measured the oxygen isotope composition (δ18O) of CO2 respired by Ricinus communis leaves in the dark. Experiments were conducted at low CO2 partial pressure and at normal atmospheric CO2 partial pressure. Across both experiments, the δ18O of dark-respired CO2 (δR) ranged from 44‰ to 324‰ (Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water scale). This seemingly imp
