Background: Nutria (Myocastor coypus), also known as Swamp Beaver, is a medium-sized semiaquatic rodent that belongs to the Capromyidae family. Originally from the southernmost part of South America, the species is distributed in several parts worldwide such as Europe and United States, where it has been used for commercial purposes due to the excellent qual

15. Capybara (Rodentia) and Ticks (Acari: Ixodidae): ecological change and the interaction of host and parasite in urban areas / Capivaras (Rodentia) e Carrapatos (Acari: Ixodidae): alterações ecológicas e a interação do hospedeiro e parasita em áreas urbanas
The recent and human caused environmental changes interfered with the evolutionary interactions between parasites and hosts. These changes accidentally benefited those few animals species, more adapted to the altered environment. However, the biodiversity of parasites was affected, and some parasitic species were benefited as well. In the case of ticks, thos

16. Effect of ascorbic acid on food preference and consumption in captive capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris)

Study of the social and reproductive behavior of capybaras Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris Linnaeus, 1766 (Rodentia) in different livel area of human influence / Comportamento social e reprodutivo de capivaras Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris Linnaeus, 1766 (Rodentia) em áreas com diferentes níveis de influência humana
The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is the largest living rodent. This general herbivorous animal is well adapted to its semi-aquatic life. The species occurs in most of the Neotropical zone, extending from Venezuela to northern Argentina. This paper aims to compare the intensity of behavioural events between two groups of capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydroc

The state of Goias has the third largest cattle herd in Brazil, but the production has some obstacles, such as reproductive diseases, which cause abortions and infertility, including leptospirosis, also important in public health. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of antibodies against Leptospira spp., determine their regional distribution and eva

20. Feeding habits of capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris, Linnaeus 1766), in the Ecological Reserve of Taim (ESEC - Taim) - south of Brazil

21. Caracterização biológica e genotípica de isolados de Toxoplasma gondii de capivaras (Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris) do Estado de São Paulo / Biological and genotypic characterization of Toxoplasma gondii isolates from capybaras (Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris) from São Paulo State
Antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii were assayed by the modified agglutination test (MAT) in serum samples of 68 capybaras from six counties in São Paulo state, Brazil. Antibodies (MAT?25) were found in 51 (75%) capybaras examined. Tissues (brain, heart and tongue) of 40 of the seropositive capybaras were bioassayed in mice and 36 (90%) isolates were obtained.
