1. A contingent valuation study of buriti ( Mauritia flexuosa L.f.) in the main region of production in Brazil: is environmental conservation a collective responsibility?
ABSTRACT The immature leaves of the buriti palm (Mauritia flexuosa) are widely harvested in the municipality of Barreirinhas, Maranhão, for the production of handicrafts, which are sold to locals and tourists. The increasing demand for these artisanal goods is stimulating the emergence of an informal market for immature buriti leaves, leading to an intensif

2. Flavonoids from leaves of Mauritia flexuosa
The chromatographic fractionation of the Mauritia flexuosa L. f., Arecaceae, leaves extract, a plant known by the name of buriti palm tree, resulted in the isolation of six flavonoids: tricin-7-O-rutinoside, apigenin-6-C-arabinoside, 8-C-glucoside (isoschaftoside), kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (nicotiflorine), quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (rutin), luteolin-8-C

3. Hydrolytic activity of bacterial lipases in amazonian vegetable oils
The data presented describe the development of an enzymatic process in vegetable oils. Six bacterial lipases were tested for their ability to hydrolyze. For each lipase assay, the p-NPP method was applied to obtain maximum enzymatic activities. The lipase from Burkholderia cepacia (lipase B-10) was the most effective in buriti oil, releasing 4840 µmol p-NP

5. Tensile behavior of lignocellulosic fiber reinforced polymer composites: Part II buriti petiole/polyester
The current interest for natural fibers as an environmentally correct composite reinforcement has motivated the investigation of new possibilities. For instance, the fibers extracted from the petiole of the buriti palm tree were recently found to have adequate mechanical properties to reinforce polymer composites. Therefore, the present work evaluates the te

6. Thermal behavior of buriti biofoam
A natural biofoam extracted from the petiole of the buriti palm tree has shown values of density and mechanical strength with potential for uses in engineering applications such as automobile interior parts and floating components. Moreover, foams can also be used as insulating materials in packing and building panels. In this case some thermal properties ar

9. ESTRUTURA DA COMUNIDADE DE MACROINVERTEBRADOS AQUÁTICOS ASSOCIADOS A Mauritia flexuosa LINNAEUS (ARECACEAE), FITOTELMATA, NA AMAZÔNIA CENTRAL, BRASIL
Adult Mauritia flexuosa L. (Arecaceae) palms, known locally as buriti, have large individual axilae that can store substantial volumes of water (phytotelmata). The objectives of the present study were to compare the aquatic macroinvertebrate fauna associated with the axilae of palms occurring in groups and as isolated trees in order to verify the relationshi
