13. A modified UNIQUAC equation for mixtures containing self-associating compounds
The UNIQUAC model for the excess Gibbs energy is modified using chemical theory to account for chain-like association occurring in self-associating compounds such as alcohols. The equation considers the alcohol to be a mixture of clusters in chemical equilibrium. The UNIQUAC equation is used to model the behavior of the mixture of clusters, with size and sur

14. Phase equilibrium calculations for confined fluids, including surface tension prediction models
Phase equilibrium calculations for fluids confined inside capillary tubes or porous media are formulated using the isofugacity equations. In this situation, the phase pressures are not equal and it is assumed that they are related by the Laplace equation. With this formulation, existing procedures for phase equilibrium calculations can be readily modified to

15. Experiments on the fundamental mechanisms of boiling heat transfer
The lecture presents a survey of results found by the author and his team during recent years. An experimental technique for precise and systematic measurements of entire boiling curves under steady-state and transient conditions has been developed. Pool boiling experiments for well wettingfluids and fluids with a larger contact angle (FC-72, isopropanol, wa

16. Use of neural networks for the prediction of multicomponent vapor liquid equilibrium / Predição de equilibrio liquido-vapor de sistemas multicomponentes atraves de redes neurais
Many thermodynamic models for the data correlation of multicomponent liquid-vapor equilibrium (LVE) can be found in the literature. However, due the difficulty of these thermodynamic models to interpolate data at pressures where experimental data is not available, the use of Artificial Neural Networks was considered. Initially the resolution of liquid-vapour

17. A novel mechanism for bubble formation in fluidized systems: the effects of granular temperature on the stability in fluidization
This work contains a novel approach for the study of stability in fluidized systems. It includes the influence of solid particle kinetic energy variations, which are known as granular temperature. The stability is verified by the temporal evolution of bed fluid-dynamics properties (solid volumetric fraction, fluid velocity, solid particles velocity) after sm

18. Estudo da sintese e hidrolise de acetato de etila em fase gasosa catalisada por enzimas suportadas
Enzymes supported in a solid phase catalyzing reactions with substrates and products in gaseous phase constitute a recent progress in the biotechnology. It has technological applications that include: toxic gas remediation, biosensors and synthesis of pharmaceutical, fragrances and aromas for the food industry and cosmetics. This work presents, the experimen

19. Modelagem da extração supercritica de oleos essenciais
This work presents complementary and auxiliary methodologies for modeling supercritical extraction of essential oils. The first methodology consists of a mathematical procedure to obtain the fugacity coefficients, from any equation of state. These coefficients are necessary for thermodynamic modeling of the supercritical extraction. This procedure allows to

20. Estudo do comportamento de fases de sistemas agua-hidrocarbonetos
Cubic equations of state have been widely used in the chemical and petroleum industry for thermodynamic property calculation. In the presence of polar substances that self-associate through hidrogen bonding (like water or alcohol), these equations are of very limited use. Some systems of industrial interest can include molecules of very different size, like

21. Preparação e caracterização de vidros de oxidos de metais pesados para optica não linear
We studied the system TiO2 - BaO - ZnO - B2O3, where we fixed the ZnO and B2O3 compositions, vaying the ratio TiO2/ BaO from 0.87 a 1.76. A super-Kanthal resistance furnace was used to melt the compounds inside alumina crucibles, at about 1200 °C, during 10 minutes. After melting, the glasses were poured out in steel moldes and rapidly cooled by quenching.

22. Determinação do comportamento volumetrico e equilibrio de fases de um oleo asfaltenico usando equação de estado
This work presents an evaluation of the results generated by two equations of state (PENG-ROBINSON and SCHMIDT-WENZEL) for the phase compositions and volumetric properties of an asphaltenic oil vapour-liquid equilibrium. Solubility parameters of the oil components were also calculated using the PENG¬ ROBINSON equation of state. Once vapour-liquid equilibriu

23. Influencia do fluxo multifasico em analises de testes de poços não surgentes
This work considers the influence of multiphase flow (oil, gas and water) in the well test analysis of non - flowing wells: For example, Drill Stem Tests (DST) and Slug Tests. To achieve this end, a two-dimensional (r-z), variable bubble point, black-oil simulator was built that considers a well partially penetrating the formation. Initially, the reservoir i

24. Comportamento de reservatorios de gas em solução submetidos a segregação gravitacional
The behavior of reservoirs producing under gas gravity segregation during natural depletion is studied in this work. Linear vertical flow in the reservoir is considered with oil being produced at the lower end at constant rate. The reservoir is initially undersaturated with gas counterflow begining at the time the pressure goes beyond the bubble-point pressu
