1. Cytotoxicity, antioxidant and antibacterial activity of four compounds produced by an endophytic fungus Epicoccum nigrum associated with Entada abyssinica
ABSTRACT Four compounds including beauvericin, parahydroxybenzaldehyde, indole-3-carboxylic acid and quinizarin were isolated from endophytic fungus Epicoccum nigrum and their cytotoxicity, antibacterial and antioxidant activity were evaluated. Beauvericin had remarkable activity against two Gram-negative strains (Bacillus cereus and Salmonella typhimurium)

2. Genetic basis of triatomine behavior: lessons from available insect genomes
Triatomines have been important model organisms for behavioural research. Diverse reports about triatomine host search, pheromone communication in the sexual, shelter and alarm contexts, daily cycles of activity, refuge choice and behavioural plasticity have been published in the last two decades. In recent times, a variety of molecular genetics techniques h

3. Ceramides and cytotoxic constituents from Ficus glumosa Del. (Moraceae)
A investigação química da casca do caule de Ficus glumosa (Moraceae) deu origem a duas novas ceramidas (2R,7E)-2-hidróxi-N-[(2S,3S,4R)-1,3,4-trihidróxihexadecano-2-il]hexacos-7-enamida e (2R)-N-{(2S,3S,4R,9Z)-1-O-[(β-D-glucopiranosil]-3,4-dihidróxiheptadec-9-eno-2-il}-2-hidróxipentacosanamida, em conjunto com vinte e um compostos conhecidos. 4.

Abstract The purpose of this work is to study the formation of analytical psychology in Brazil. To this end, a social approach in the history of psychology was used seeking to place people and facts in a general context once history is inserted in a certain time and place. Three figures considered pioneers in this field in the country were identified Nise da

Alico, Robert K. (St. Bonaventure University, St. Bonaventure, N.Y.), and Francis W. Liegey. Growth of Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, under heterotrophic and anaerobic conditions. J. Bacteriol. 91:1112–1114. 1966.—Growth of Desulfovibrio desulfuricans was investigated under heterotrophic and anaerobic conditions. For initial growth to occur, it was found t

8. Metabolic Responses to the Reduction in Palmitate Caused by Disruption of the FATB Gene in Arabidopsis1
Disruption of the FATB gene in Arabidopsis results in a two-thirds reduction in saturated fatty acids, largely palmitate, in the leaf extra-plastidic phospholipids and a reduction in the growth rate of the mutant compared to wild type (Bonaventure G, Salas JJ, Pollard MR, Ohlrogge JB [2003] Plant Cell 15: 1020–1033). In this study, we report that although

9. Linkage studies of four fibrillar collagen genes in three pedigrees with Larsen-like syndrome.
We report seven children from three families who had a set of common clinical features suggestive of Larsen-like syndrome, including unusual facies, bilateral dislocations of the knees and elbows, club foot, and short stature. All of the patients originated from the island of La Réunion in the Indian Ocean. The occurrence of several affected sibs in these f

10. Differential Regulation of mRNA Levels of Acyl Carrier Protein Isoforms in Arabidopsis1
All higher plants express several different acyl carrier protein (ACP) isoforms in a tissue-specific manner. We provide evidence that expression of mRNA for the most abundant ACP isoform in Arabidopsis leaves (ACP4) is increased severalfold by light, whereas mRNA levels for ACP isoforms 2 and 3 are independent of light. The presence of GATA-like motifs in th

11. Disruption of the FATB Gene in Arabidopsis Demonstrates an Essential Role of Saturated Fatty Acids in Plant Growth
Acyl-acyl carrier protein thioesterases determine the amount and type of fatty acids that are exported from the plastids. To better understand the role of the FATB class of acyl-acyl carrier protein thioesterases, we identified an Arabidopsis mutant with a T-DNA insertion in the FATB gene. Palmitate (16:0) content of glycerolipids of the mutant was reduced b
