1. Germination, initial growth and cotyledon protein content of bean cultivars under salinity stress.

2. Determinação das melhores condições de extrusão e caracterização de farinha de feijão para utilização como ingrediente de alimentos instantâneos / Determining the best conditions for extrusion and characterization of bean flour for use as an ingredient of instant foods

4. Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) seed coat phaseolin is detrimental to the cowpea weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus)
The presence of phaseolin (a vicilin-like 7S storage globulin) peptides in the seed coat of the legume Phaseolus lunatus L. (lima bean) was demonstrated by N-terminal amino acid sequencing. Utilizing an artificial seed system assay we showed that phaseolin, isolated from both cotyledon and testa tissues of P. lunatus, is detrimental to the nonhost bruchid Ca

5. Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) hardening phenomenon: cell wall polysaccharides / Fenômeno de endurecimento de feijões (Phaseolus vulgaris L): polissacarídeos da parede celular
Common beans is one of the most important source of nutrients for the world population, mainly in developing countries. Nevertheless, they have severaI undesirable characteristics, such as antinutrients components and facility to acquire textural defects when stored under inadequate conditions. High temperature and humidity of storage cause the development o

6. Metabolism of Inositol Phosphates: I. Phytase Synthesis during Germination in Cotyledons of Mung Beans, Phaseolus aureus1
The degradation of phytin in germinating mung bean seeds has been found to be associated with the increased activity of phytase in the cotyledon. In the differentiated embryo the increase of this activity is very low all throughout the growth periods studied. Phytase appears in the cotyledon during germination. No activity has been detected in the cotyledons

7. Galactinol synthase from kidney bean cotyledon and zucchini leaf. Purification and N-terminal sequences.
Galactinol synthase (GS) was purified 1591-fold with a 3.9% recovery from the cotyledon of kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) by a novel scheme consisting of ammonium sulfate fractionation followed by diethylaminoethyl, Affi-Gel Blue, and UDP-hexanolamine affinity chromatography. The purified enzyme had a specific activity of 8.75 mumol mg-1 min-1, a pH optimu

8. Peptide and Amino Acid Transporters Are Differentially Regulated during Seed Development and Germination in Faba Bean1
Two peptide transporter (PTR) homologs have been isolated from developing seeds of faba bean (Vicia faba). VfPTR1 was shown to be a functional peptide transporter through complementation of a yeast mutant. Expression patterns of VfPTR1 and VfPTR2 as well as of the amino acid permease VfAAP1 (Miranda et al., 2001) were compared throughout seed developme

9. Comparative Studies of Glyoxysomes from Various Fatty Seedlings 1
The separation of various organelles from cotton cotyledon (Gossypium hirsutum L.), cucumber cotyledon (Cucumis sativus L.), peanut cotyledon (Archis hypogaea L.), pine megagametophyte (Pinus ponderosa Laws), and watermelon cotyledon (Citrullus vulgaris Schrad.) by sucrose density gradient centrifugation was found to be similar to that described for castor b

10. Relative Activities of NAD- and NADP-Isocitric Dehydrogenases in Bean Mitochondria Modified by Glycerol or NADP 1
Mitochondria from cotyledons of Vigna sesquipedalis (L.) Fruwirth (starchy seed) showed no NAD-isocitric dehydrogenase (NAD-IDH) activity by the methods which have been known to be useful for the detection of NAD-IDH in mitochondria of plants including castor bean and alaska pea. When the Vigna cotyledon mitochondria were treated with glycerol, NAD-IDH activ

11. A role for sugar transporters during seed development: molecular characterization of a hexose and a sucrose carrier in fava bean seeds.
To analyze sugar transport processes during seed development of fava bean, we cloned cDNAs encoding one sucrose and one hexose transporter, designated VfSUT1 and VfSTP1, respectively. sugar uptake activity was confirmed after heterologous expression in yeast. Gene expression was studied in relation to seed development. Transcripts were detected in both veget

12. Endoplasmic Reticulum of Mung Bean Cotyledons: ACCUMULATION DURING SEED MATURATION AND CATABOLISM DURING SEEDLING GROWTH 1
Homogenates of mung bean cotyledons were subjected to equilibrium density centrifugation on linear sucrose gradients and the positions of the various organelles determined by assay of marker enzymes. Measurement of phospholipid distribution on such gradients showed that the major peak of phospholipid at a density of 1.11 to 1.13 grams per cubic centimeter co
