13. Sericin as compatibilizer in starch/ polyester blown films
Abstract This study investigated the effects of low concentrations of sericin (≤ 1.5 wt%) in starch- poly(butylene-adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) films. The films were produced by blown extrusion and mechanical, barrier and structural properties were determined. Films containing 1.0 and 1.5 wt% sericin showed higher tensile strength (6.41 and 6.59 MPa)

14. Effect of the Incorporation of Micro and Nanocellulose Particles on the Anticorrosive Properties of Epoxy Coatings Applied on Carbon Steel
Polymeric coatings may act as a physical barrier between the aggressive ions and the metal substrate. However, prolonged exposure may cause damage to the polymer coating, leading to a continuous reduction of the barrier effect and consequently loss of the corrosion protection. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of aminopropyltriethoxysila

15. Efecto de la adición de bentonita sobre las propiedades ópticas de diferentes materiales compuestos poliméricos
ABSTRACT In this work, composite materials were obtained by the incorporation of bentonite to biodegradable and synthetic polymeric matrices. Commercial (BE) and natural (BM) bentonite samples were employed, as well as three different polymeric matrices: thermoplastic corn starch (TPS), high density polyethylene (HDPE) and a poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styren

16. Properties of barrier shrink bags made with EVOH and polyamide for fresh beef meat preservation
Abstract The objective of this work was to compare the barrier and mechanical properties and shrinkability of coextruded films chlorine-free, with high barrier chlorine multilayer films traditionally used to preserve fresh beef. Four 9-layer barrier-shrink films containing PET, ethylene ionomers, polyamide PA66/6 modified with amorphous PA, 32 or 44 mol% EV

17. An Evaluation of the Dielectric Barrier Discharge Treatment on the Mechanical, Structural and Morphological Properties of Carbon Fibers
ABSTRACT: Carbon fibers (CFs) have been widely applied in the manufacture of polymeric composites. The mechanical properties of these composites depend on the adhesion in the matrix/CF interface. Since the CFs have poor adhesion properties, a surface treatment of the CFs becomes necessary. The plasma process used in this work was the dielectric barrier disch

18. Production of biodegradable starch nanocomposites using cellulose nanocrystals extracted from coconut fibers
Abstract Different polymeric matrices have been investigated for use in the development of biodegradable films. The incorporation of cellulose nanocrystals in such films has particularly attracted attention because of the potential for achieving improved properties of starch nanocomposites. In the present study, cellulose nanocrystals were extracted from coc

19. Combination of Propylene Glycol Alginate and Lauric Acid on Water Retention and Mechanical Properties of Soy Protein Isolate-Based Films
The water sorption, water barrier properties and mechanical behavior of soy protein isolate (SPI) based films combined with propylene glycol alginate (PGA) and lauric acid (La) via a direct- or co-dried blending process were investigated. Higher water retention ability and a single glass transition temperature (Tg) were found when the PGA was added to form d

20. Effect of the Addition of Carnauba Wax on Physicochemical Properties of Chitosan Films
Films and edible coatings of natural polymers have been proposed as an attractive alternative for conventional plastic packaging because of their excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility. However, natural polymers, like chitosan, are hydrophilic and present poor water barrier properties. The addition of wax or other hydrophobic substances decreases wa

21. Gelatin capsule waste: new source of protein to develop a biodegradable film
Abstract This work aimed to develop biodegradable films utilizing a new source of gelatin derived from the nutraceutical capsule manufacture waste of coconut with safflower oil, coconut oil and safflower oil. The mechanical, physicochemical, barrier, optical, biodegradation, thermal and morphological properties were evaluated. All films showed low water vapo

22. Influence of microcrystalline cellulose in thermoplastic starch/polyester blown films
Abstract This work investigated the influence of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) in thermoplastic starch/poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) films produced by blown extrusion, using different MCC contents (4, 7 and 10 g.100 g-1). The films were characterised for their mechanical, structural and barrier properties. Increasing fibres concentration reduce

23. Analysis of Composite Membranes in the Separation of Emulsions Sunflower oil/water
Oil is a major pollutant of water resources, affects aquatic life, causing environmental degradation. Currently there is an increase in studies of membrane applied to separation of oil-water. Among these membranes, there are composite membranes, which show as main characteristic an association of organic and inorganic membrane properties. In a tangential flo

24. Analysis of Water Barrier, Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Nanocoposites Based on Cassava Starch and Natural Clay or Modified by Anionic Exchange
Biopolymer films have several industrial applications because they are environmentally sustainable. Cassava starch is a biopolymer that is easily available, but has limitations: it is hydrophilic, poorly resistant and degradable. The improvement of these properties was proposed in this research from the use of bentonite clay (BT) as a filling material. The c
