25. Impact of chemical agents for surface treatments on microhardness and flexural strength of root dentin
This study assessed the cross-sectional Knoop microhardness and flexural strength of root dentin exposed to different surface treatments with chemical agents after biomechanical preparation. Root canals from human canines were biomechanically treated and divided into eight groups (n=10) to receive one of the following dentin treatments: I. Deionized water (c

26. Photosynthetic gas exchange and antioxidative system in common bean plants infected by Colletotrichum lindemuthianum and supplied with silicon
This study investigated the effects of silicon (Si) on the resistance of common bean plants to anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum lindemuthianum. The plants were grown in a nutrient solution containing 0 (control) or 2 mM Si (+Si) and both photosynthesis and antioxidative metabolism levels were evaluated. The Si concentrations in the leaf tissues of +Si pl

27. Influence of exposure time to saliva and antioxidant treatment on bond strength to enamel after tooth bleaching: an in situ study
Objectives: This study evaluated the influence of different exposure times to saliva in situ in comparison with an antioxidant treatment on composite resin bond strength to human enamel restored after tooth bleaching. Material and Methods: Forty human teeth specimens measuring 5x5 mm were prepared and randomly allocated into 5 groups with 8 specimens e

28. Enhanced salt tolerance in maize plants induced by H2O2 leaf spraying is associated with improved gas exchange rather than with non-enzymatic antioxidant system
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an essential signaling molecule that mediates plant responses against several biotic and abiotic stresses. H2O2 pretreatment has emerged as a signaling way, inducing salt stress acclimation in plants. Here, we analyzed the effects of H2O2 leaf pretreatment on the non-enzymatic defense system (ascorbate and glutathione), plant grow

29. Effect of sodium ascorbate on the bond strength of silorane and methacrylate composites after vital bleaching
We investigated the effect of sodium ascorbate (SA) on the microtensile bond strengths (MTBSs) of different composites to bovine enamel after vital bleaching with hydrogen peroxide (HP) or carbamide peroxide (CP). Thirty bovine incisors were randomly divided into five groups and treated with no bleaching applicati

30. Salt stress: antioxidant activity as a physiological adaptation of onion cultivars
The germination and development of several plant species can be limited when those plants are grown in soils with high salinity, which reduces seedling viability and vigor, as well as activating the antioxidant defense system. The aim of this study was to evaluate germination, initial growth and activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase

31. Seed vigor, antioxidant metabolism and initial growth characteristics of red rice seedlings under different light intensities
This work aimed to evaluate the effect that different intensities of light have on the physiological attributes of red rice seeds and seedlings. Before and after emergence, seedlings were exposed to light levels of 35%; 65% and 100% in a greenhouse. We evaluated shoots and roots, in terms of length and dry mass, as well as leaf area and content of chlorophyl

32. Detection of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate oxidase activity in seeds of Stylosanthes humilis H.B.K
The activity of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate oxidase (ACO) was characterized in seeds of the tropical legume Townsville stylo (Stylosanthes humilis) both in vitro (desalted extract of non-dormant seeds) and in vivo (entire dormant seeds). Optimum conditions for maximum in vitro ACO activity in a Trizma-HCl 100 mM buffered medium were: pH 7.0, temperatur

33. Modificações morfológicas e metabólicas em gramínea e leguminosa forrageiras tropicais relativas ao suprimento de enxofre / Metabolic and morphological changes in grass and legume tropical forages related to sulfur supply
Tanzânia) e do estilosante (Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Mine

34. Danos oxidativos promovidos por espécies de Mn(III) sobre biomoléculas e células em situação de estresse / Oxidative damage induced by Mn(III) species over biomolecules and stressed cells
Manganese is an essential trace element, however there is considerable concern regarding its neurological effects when in excess, giving rise to a condition termed manganism which is characterized by Parkinson disease-like symptoms. Most evaluations of manganese toxicity use poorly defined Mn(II) species, although Mn(III) is known to accumulate preferentiall

35. Addition of bone morphogenetic protein type 2 to ascorbate and β-glycerophosphate supplementation did not enhance osteogenic differentiation of human adipose-derived stem cells
Bone morphogenetic protein type 2 (BMP-2) is a potent local factor, which promotes bone formation and has been used as an osteogenic supplement for mesenchymal stem cells. OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the effect of a recombinant BMP-2 as well as the endogenous BMP-4 and BMP-7 in the osteogenic differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) in mediu

36. Antioxidant system response induced by aluminum in two rice cultivars
The antioxidant defense system response was evaluated in two rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.), Fernandes (CNA-1158) and Maravilha (CNA-6843-1), treated with toxic levels of aluminum. After exposure to aluminum we determined plant growth, H2O2 and O2•- contents, lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes activities and ascorbate and dehydroascorbate contents.
