RESUMO

The work searchs to invest igate t races of the nat ional ident ity in the photographic workmanship of Pier re Fatumbi Verger. I t takes as study object photos car ried through in the decade of 40, period of intense reflect ion on the brasility. Some of the negat ives presented in the study had remained unknown. The done clipping privileges the t ravest ism in the carnival as form to argue the sexual character of the Brazilian by means of the par ty that many t imes if confuses with we ourselves. The interest for this product ion gains relevance when if it thinks that great par t of the quant ity was prepared for one of the magazines most important in the history of the Brazilian press: O Cruzeiro. I n mission for the magazine, the foreign look of Verger left count ry measures, registering t races of the popular culture, human types, religious aspects, e everything that said respect to the nat ional character. I ts workmanship on Brazil never total was published, although much thing to have been propagated in the pages of the magazine and as much edited others in some books. Nor always it is easy to find the Brazilian ident ity in the product ion of Verger . I n we see them, uncondit ionally, in photographs, but the cut of t ime and space exists and many t imes in move away them from the there present object
