RESUMO

This study was developed in a Unit of Conservation of Integral Protection in Mato Grosso do Sul, the River Taquari Springs State Park. This Park possesses, in its interior, the sources of rivers that make important contributions to the Upper Paraguay Basin. The principal result of the study was the identification of areas potentially environmentally vulnerable, in order to subsidize the management, monitoring and inspection of the Unit of Conservation, presented in the form of a Vulnerability map and GIS databank, generated from the cross-referencing of diverse georeferenced vectorial maps, obtained by geoprocessing techniques. Besides economizing time, the GIS environment permitted the automation of complex operations, that executed in the traditional form would be difficult to realize with acceptable precision, such as the integration of data differing in nature and scale. In addition, Lithological, Soil, Slope, Digital Model Elevation, Relative Ecological Vulnerability, Natural, Environmental, and Imminent Danger maps were elaborated. This work illustrates the point that, having been shown to be productive, GISs have become an important tool involved in various methodologies applied to the Planning and Management of Protected Areas. The results obtained should subsidize the management of the River Taquari Springs State Park.
