RESUMO

Abnormal uterine bleeding is the most frequent complaint of gynecologic patients. Thus, an inexpensive, simple, and accurate diagnostic procedure would be very useful. We compared the accuracy of sonohysterography with that. of office hysterography and ultrasonography in women with abnormal uterine bleeding, using histology as the gold standard. We evaluated 56 patients attending the Department of Gynecology and o bstetrics , CAISM/UNICAMP, and the results were analysed, comparing the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of the three procedures. Sonohysterography and histeroscopy s sensitivity was 94%, , ultrasonography s was 83%. Specificity for sonohisterography was 87%, histeroscopy s 92% and 76% for ultrasonography. The results did not differ significantly. We concluded that sonohysterography is an accurate method to evaluate morfhologic alterations of the uterine cavity that cause abnormal uterine bleeding. It can be used as a substitute procedure of office histeroscopy and complementary to ultrasoud for the evaluation of women with abnormal terine bleeding
