RESUMO

The waste generation in industrial processes is mostly unavoidable. The glass wool, greatly used in mineral-metallurgical activities, loses its thermal insulating features turning into an industrial waste due to work conditions. The prime goal of this work is to research the use of industrial waste of glass wool, though the incorporation in concrete matrix, which is used for the waste encasement it is a common practice and also advantageous is most cases with gain in mechanic properties and improvement of the mixture workability development. In this way, the mechanical properties of the concrete were evaluated for different incorporations, in addition or substitution of the mass agglomerate, for contents of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%. This work shows the results of the experimental tests accomplished to measure the concrete properties, such as compressive strength, traction in flexural strength, elasticity modulus and the workability of referential trace compared to pulverized and natural mixtures of glass wool. The results show a raise of the workability of the mixtures in waste substitution above 300% and in waste addition above 350%. An expressive enhancement of the elasticity modulus (20%) in trace with 10% of added waste was also obtained. Since there are not any similar works published, it is believed that this work will be very useful to future researches.
