RESUMO

Searching for alternatives to optimize the use of forest resources, this work was developed to provide new forms of utilizing residue from the screening sector of the eucalyptus Kraft pulping industry. For residue recovery, mechanical systems were used to eliminate and disintegrate impurities to optimize the quantitative level of residue use. The study was developed in three phases: the first phase consisted in recovering and evaluating the potential of the eucalyptus Kraft pulping fibrous residue for paper production. The recovered and screened pulps (B and D) were submitted to physical, chemical and morphological evaluations followed by pulp refining for the formation of paper sheets and evaluation of the properties of the paper produced. Industrial pulps obtained from recycled paper and ordinary brown eucalyptus pulp were used as comparison parameters. In the second phase, the recovery of properties of recycled paper produced with the addition (25, 50 and 75%) of pulp obtained from fibrous residue was evaluated. Based on the results obtained in the first phase, the recovered fiber (pulp D) that presented better reutilization level and recovery potential of the properties of the recycled paper was selected.. In a third phase of the study, 0.56% of each type of recovered pulp (A, B,C, and D) was added to the ordinary brown industrial eucalyptus pulp. These mixtures were submitted to bleaching, aiming to verify the capacity of the bleaching technology to incorporate the treated residue back into the process, without compromising the quality of the final product. The additional percentage (0.56%) was utilized because it represented the percentage volume of residue occurrence observed in the screening area of the industrial pulping process. The results obtained in this work showed that the re utilization of industrial fibrous residue for brown paper production is technically viable, as well as its use as an additive in the recovery of recycled paper properties, and its incorporation into the process of bleached pulp production.
