RESUMO

Nursery and field experiments were conducted at the Federal University of Lavras from July, 2003 to December, 2005 (nursery) and from December, 2005 to July, 2007 (field), to evaluate different coffee scion kinds on the crop establishment to anticipate the first coffee production. Experiments had a randomized complete block design (RCB) and a split plot in time arrangements. The plots were represented by treatments and subplots by evaluation times. There were 15 kinds of seedlings and three replicates. Each plot had three coffee rows with 6 plants per row, totaling 18 plants, but only 4 plants on the central row were evaluated. TopÃzio MG 1190 coffee cultivar was used and Apotà IAC 2258 coffee cultivar plant seedlings for rootstock. The following recipients were used for seedling development: 27 x 32 cm plastic bags for treatment 1; and 16 x 25 cm plastic bags, for treatments, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8; 120 ml capacity seedling tubes, for treatments 6, 9, 10 and 11; 15 x 20 cm plastic bags, for treatment 12, and 11 x 22 cm plastic bags, for treatments 13, 14 and 15. Treatments 1 and 2 were 30 months old; Treatments 3, 4, 5 and 6 were 18 months; treatments 7 and 8 were 12 months old; treatments 9 and 10 were 7 months old and the treatments 11 to 15 were 6 months old at the planting time. Treatments 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 were pruned in July at planting year and conducted with 2 shoots. The characteristics evaluated were plant height, shoot diameter, leaf par numbers of the orthotropic and plagiotropic stems, plagiotropic branch par numbers, root and aerial parts dry matter and yield in processed coffee bags per ha. There was concluded that using the 1, 2, 3 and 7 treatments is possible to anticipate the coffee production.
