Uso de leitos cultivados no tratamento de efluente de tanque septico modificado

RESUMO

This study has evaluated the performance of three compartment septic tank followed by a constructed wetland in the treatment of the raw sewage from the School of Agricultural Engineering (University of Campinas - Brazil). Experiments were carried out over a period of 4.5 months (sept/98 to jan/99). The concept of compartments anaerobic reactor was applied to design the septic tank. The inflow to the compartments was located near the bottom in order to provide better contact between microorganisms and wastewater. The results indicated COD removal ranging from 17 to 69%; settable solids removal up to 100%; suspended solids ranging from 58 to 92%; turbidity from 67 to 92%; and E. coli ranging from zero to 75%. As secondary treatment were constructed six subsurface flow wetlands (Area= 4.0 m2, depth 0.7m), 3 with square shape and 3 rectangular. The units were constructed above soil level with concrete bricks. The medium used was gravel with size ranging from 55 to 90 mm and macrophytes from two species Typha sp. and Eleocharis sp. Better results were achieved in the square unit planted with Eleocharis sp. with suspended solids removal ranging from 91 to 97%, total coliformes from 59 to 96%, Kjedahl nitrogen ranging from 35 to 90% and total phosphorus ranging from 41 to 65%; the unplanted rectangular unit presented turbidity reduction ranging from 87 to 98% and Ammonia nitrogen ranging from 35 to 87%; the rectangular unit planted with Eleocharis sp. presented COD removal ranging from 70 to 97% and E. coli between 74 and 97%; the square unit planted with Typha sp, presented nitrate removal ranging from 71 to 83%. The Eleocharis sp. showed faster propagation in the units compared to the Typha sp.
