RESUMO

The use of the infrared thermography for evaluation of the misalignment of shafts of rotative machines might be an auxiliary tool for the analysis of vibrations if limitations considered. This work investigates, through Experiments in laboratory and in industrial plant and literature review, the viability of that technique to be used in industry a tool for predictive maintenance. Two kinds of flexible couplings were employed, namely; one made of metallic sheets and other of an elastomer. The main objective is the study of the scale relationship among the generation of heat in the flexible element of the coupling and the misalignment width. Was concluded not to be possible to establish a reliable scale due to several restricts. It was also observed that it heat generation occur due to the misalignment, in the different models of flexible elements, and that the thermal spectrum is not influenced by the angle used to capture the image. It was observed, a great limitation for the use in industry, that the coupling receives more heat from the electric motor than from the generation due to the misalignment of the shafts. Thus, satisfactory results were obtained values of very high misalignment when compared to tolerances recommendations.
