RESUMO

This work deals with a semiotic inquiry about values of the caipira culture, present in the lyrics of root music. We analyzed texts of the Brazilian country literature, with nostalgia, sentimentalism, values and ideology, which, like in every speech produced in verbal communication, holds the cultural ideology to which they are from. Current globalization process compels to the cultural eradication, therefore, it is necessary to think about local culture, aiming the increase in value of our popular culture, factor that favors recognition of our identity. The Brazilian country speech we analyzed seems to translate the consciousness of this extinguishment. With concerns in valuing the Brazilian country poetics, which for decades has been preserved by the collective memory, our search was based on models of the ethnic-semiotics, which according to Pais (1993), incorporate, support and characterize a cultural identity. We observed the current cultural concepts, the effects of present globalization process and we studied the formation of the Brazilian country people, then we analyzed the subsequent cultural manifestation. In semic analyses we notice a dialectic tension between the opposites such as the caipira culture and others cultures; the tradition and modernity; the urban and country subjects; the present day and the past, confirming that isotopic themes are reiterated in many lyrics. We have made use of canonical schemes to study the actant relations, still the entire text allows more than one interpretation and it only takes us a couple of readings. We detect characteristics of ethnic-literary speech, such as the documentality and the fictionality and literary individuality as the abundance of stylistic resources. Bearer of general and universal truths, the Brazilian Literature is preserved by the collective memory and transmitted from generation to generation. We realize that the speech showed in the analyzed songs supports aspects of the values and beliefs systems, which integrate the collective imaginary of the country community in São Paulo.
