RESUMO

New Technologies for optical networks present a significant challenge for researchers involved with the new generation of high-performance networking, especially when we are talking about optimizing the current infrastructure available in the optical fiber backbones. In this context the computer simulations present themselves as flexible alternatives for the modeling and analysis of new ideas and projects. Moreover, a uniform environment for the simulation of OTN networks is essential. That would give researchers the ability to reproduce and compare results from other researchers. This paper aims to present a proposal for a industry independent and open source framework architecture for simulation of optical transport networks, designed specifically for OTN (Optical Transport Network). The simulation environment adopted is OMNeT++. The proposed architecture resulted from the integration of works from UFESs telecommunications research group and is mainly focused on the functional description and interaction of the optical components and ITU-Ts standards and specifications for OTN. The main contributions of this thesis are to present the general structure of the architecture, and the modeling and interaction of its main components. Are also presents an initial prototype of the framework and some preliminary results of researchs that are using this prototype. Furthermore, we present an external communication module that is under development and will add many features to the framework in the future
