RESUMO

Behind the growth of the amount of broadband users connections in the world, the wide use of mobile devices as cell phones and PDAs and other access from anywhere throughout Internet, always require some level of availability to support customer needs. This necessity made which the high availability architectures were used on large scale and they were migrated to service providers that they offer solutions and ensure the short time to repair. This dissertation addresses high availability, one of the basic requirements of today systems on the Internet, presenting the main concepts and the possible solutions. Some protocols will be presented that support these solutions showing the advantages and disadvantages as well as the study on the basis of the problems presented in a production environment. The identification of splitbrain and no-brain phenomena was determiner for the solution problem. This work proposes a protocol extension for high availability architectures regarding split-brain and no-brain issues found out on protocols which resides in that kind of architecture and the utilization of the formal language methods to ensure its functioning.
