RESUMO
The objective of this work was to utilize the SONAR System to follow the auditory function development in infants bom at term, from one to twelve months of age. We evaluated about 27 infants, monthly. We used the following instruments: rattle, "ganzá", coconut and drum, with frequencies centralized in the frequencies of 3000, 1500, 700 and 500 Hz, respectively. All the infants passed the otoacoustic emissions screening. To analyze the data, there was observed that 91% up to 100% of infants responded to the frequencies above. The results has shown a statistical significant difference in all frequencies afier three months of age, with the presence of the following responses: attention and sound localization. When we compared the seventh, eighth and ninth months, there was statistical significant difference to the response of attention to sound. We have gotten infant responses to the sounds of the SONAR System since the first month of age. We agree that the SONAR System should be incorporated in the audiological routine evaluation in the first year of life
